While we loved some of the other Osmo apps, this was by far the favorite and makes the whole system a pretty powerful (and fun! The Osmo Coding Kit received a lot more playtime than both my son or I thought it would and both he and I agree it would make a great gift for kids who enjoy playing games online — which honestly, at this point, is most every kid I know. This is an absolutely brilliant game and he had no idea he was actually learning, which is always a bonus! This game will also teach your child about various landmarks all over the world, while sharpening their critical thinking and observational skills. Designed for ages 5–10, Coding Starter Kit builds coding skills in progression with 3 hands-on learning games.

Early learners can begin with games focused on problem-solving and progress to concepts like sequencing and looping. They work on map-reading, collaborating, problem-solving, and even basics like counting and directions.Kids can use a combination of Walk, Jump, Grab, turning arrows, and iteration numerals to get Awbie where he needs to go. Each time the player pushes the “Play” button, they are “Programming” different algorithms for Awbie to complete. I’m still really impressed with this one – it really required kids to use critical thinking to progress, but in a way that wasn’t frustrating or discouraging. Did you know that creating a routine for your child is like familiarizing your child with the concept of algorithms?

I really wish this had been out when we first got our Osmo, because that was one of the things that made me the most nervous about using it when the kids were younger. It is aimed at children aged between 5 and 12 years old, and can only be played on an Ipad or iPhone. The Osmo Coding Starter Kit is the first coding toy we have owned and honestly, I wasn’t really sure what my son would think.Fresh, hands-on content keeps your child engaged while they build 1st and 2nd grade math curriculum skills in an expansive and magical world.
