About this deal

This low exposure latitude and dynamic range can result in the loss of details in darker settings, but this is a known feature and in fact a preference for photographers with Gold 200. I’m sure there are charts and graphs and more technical terms for all of this but I’ll speak in basic terms, because that’s all I know.

Ektar benefits greatly when processed and scanned through professional level machines by those with extensive experience with the emulsion. With its vibrant colours, fine grain and wide exposure latitude, it can handle any light you throw at it.

This shot here was taken using Kodak Gold in 120 format on my Hasselblad camera, and it shows just how versatile this film is.

I’ve taken a lot of my favorite shots with it — especially summer evenings on the beach, walking around with a camera in hand.As two of the most popular colour 35mm films in the world, and cheaper than the premium Kodak emulsions of Portra or Ektar, many people ask us which they should shoot.

Though Tri-X can be processed to be a stellar low-light film, Kodak’s T-max P3200 is undoubtedly the company’s flagship super speed film.

I’d hesitate to recommend this film to run-and-gun street shooters, first for its lack of exposure latitude, and then because of its high saturation, which can unnaturally emphasize more incidental parts of a scene. The color balance with Ultramax makes it versatile for many applications such as portraits, cities, landscapes, and more.

Some of our partners may process your data as a part of their legitimate business interest without asking for consent. But when used for its intended application of portraiture and airy people photography, it performs well. Shooters looking for a do-it-all black-and-white film probably won’t be satisfied with the specificity of P3200. I’ll often just get a couple of warm up shots while setting up, which can sometimes even the favorites in the shoot. Kodak GOLD 200 is a medium-speed daylight-balanced colour negative film offering a versatile combination of vivid colour saturation, fine grain, and high image sharpness.Ektachrome also features a signature color saturation and contrast that I’ve never seen with other films. Remember, Kodak Gold 200 is inexpensive and available everywhere, consistent and reliable, and hard to mess up when shooting. It’s also inexpensive, and works well as a backup film, even if it doesn’t have the obvious character of some of the more expensive, professional films. But there are also lots of similarities - the broad shape of the curves, the wavelengths where each of them peak - these indicate that the look you'll get from your images will be pretty alike in comparable lighting. You can also use it with the aid of an electronic, daylight-balanced flash for shooting inside or in low lighting.
