It isn't that good from a technical point of view, but I believe its worthy of 5 stars form my side. I loved getting to see him blossom from the person he was at the start - insecure, passive, too afraid and weighed down by expectations to seek help or open up to people - to the person he becomes at the end: so much more confident and purposeful, aware of what he wants and willing to try and get it. One common mistake is assuming that every icebreaker serves the same purpose, in a “one size fits all” fashion. I loved the focus on Mickey struggling to connect with people and learning to let them in, both his family and his teammates, and his journey to seeking help for his depression and figuring out what he wants, as opposed to what he thinks is expected of him as a hockey legacy.

Also, for my book club’s pick this month (The Lottery by Shirley Jackson) (short story), after the discussion, each member will pick from a Pink box (instead of a black box as in the story) and whoever has a black dot on their paper wins the lottery (gift)!

This is when you need a long list of quick, easy, and funny icebreaker questions to get the ball moving and to get your team feeling comfortable with each other. I was expecting this to be a romance, and while there definitely was romance in it (and it was fantastic), this really was Mickey's story. The characters are quite unidimensional with hardly any complexity despite so much potential in the plot to introduce layers to their nature. Adding further issues to the story is the fact that Mickey is a bisexual who is struggling to come out with his sexual identity.

Mickey and Jaysen have a complicated, hair point trigger relationship due to their circumstances and Mickey's mental health, but they're so tender towards each other and towards their friendships. i wish the father a very enjoy hell, idc that he allegedly changed by the end of it - he sent a ten year old away from home for the chance! In fact, we have an awesome list of "would you rather" questions and ["get to know you" questions] that would be a great addition to any icebreaker activity. The sports element, the bond between siblings and friends were top-notch but the love interest, Jaysen Cauler, and romance between Mickey and Jaysen looked half-baked.
