About this deal

If you’ve read Stephen King’s time travel book, 11/22/1963, you might recognize a few minor plot points - taking a run at stopping the Kennedy assassination, using sports betting as a way to make ends meet – something King did infinitely better. This book predates King’s by about 15 years.

Replay (Grimwood novel) - Wikipedia

Part installation, part adventure playground, REPLAY is a space built entirely out of waste materials, repurposed for fun by The Herd Theatre. Saki Tsukahara's Replay is about Yuta and Ritsu, two young men who grew up playing baseball together. They were inseparable until they both quit the sport and they started drifting apart. Yuta is now tested: Would he choose to play baseball or to reach out to his best friend and try to get into the same university as Ritsu? A short review of a working paper by Balch et.al (2019) from J.P. Morgan Artificial Intelligence Research and Imperial College LondonAt the baseball training camp, the two boys had complicated feelings training with others, as they are the perfect partners in pitching and catching. The seme taught a younger student how to catch uke’s throw, he also watched the professional catcher 嶋 in the field. The seme offered to cut uke’s fringe, he told the uke to go to N University and he will meet good catchers even if it’s not him… And when he woke and he was 18 again, with all his memories of the next 25 years intact. He could live his life again, avoiding the mistakes, making money from his knowledge of the future, seeking happiness. Jeff Winston was 43 and trapped in a tepid marriage and a dead-end job, waiting for that time when he could be truly happy, when he died. So: it doesn't really matter if we get several chances to get the answer right like Jeff, or one like everybody else on this planet. The novel invites us to make the best of what there is, live every moment fully ("soaring into the clear blue skies") and, whenever possible, try to leave the world a little bit better than we have found it. Another point I loved about the book and its message is that having a companion along the way is every bit as important as wisdom or fortune.

Que harías si pudieras vivir tu vida pero recordando todo lo de la anterior? ¿y si volverias a repertirlo?I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. High school friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes of all time.

There is a little bit of "urk" in the book (thus my 4 instead of 5). The writer's politics will show up and the book's conclusion is a bit...subjective. I'm not huge on "Message books" and (of course) this book does have it's point of view/message to give. It's not however overwhelming (that is the message doesn't overwhelm the plot) and it doesn't spoil the story. The book doesn't get preachy it simply tells a story where the writer's idea/view point are assumed to be fact. One of the best ways to convince someone of your viewpoint. During one of his replays he meets a woman who also experiences the same phenomena and during their multiple lifetimes together they try to not only figure this stuff out but search for others who “replay” as well. Yuta and Ritsu are in their final year of high school and working hard to get into the same university. Well, Ritsu was working hard, Yuta was still trying to relive his baseball glory days. I think this is a cute romance where baseball was the thing that tied them together from the time they were in 3rd grade. As the story progresses, Yuta realizes he cared more about keeping the magic between him and Ritsu, not just baseball itself. I absolutely loved this Love x Love manga from TokyoPop. As of lately this publishing house has been on a role with their BL manga and GL manga, and Replay was no exception. Honestly anything this publishing house puts out I will read at this point! Creech shows you an extraordinary world through Leo’s eyes. The family drama of an Italian American family with tiffs between adults is well captured—the adult world from a kid’s vantage point. The admonishment, the jibes by cousins, the well-meaning insults that Creech spotlights have happened to the best of all in family gatherings. The next day, the uke and the coach were in the car on the way to shopping for the training camp, they drove passed the seme and an older girl walking close to S University entrance… The coach introduced uke to his friend 嶋, a professional catcher who’s retired and now teaching at N University. The catcher has watched the uke in action previously and praised his throw, said he can recommend uke to N University if he still wants to play baseball. I’d be 22 years old, almost finished with college and already I’m starting to think about things I would do different. The interesting aspect to this phenomenon is that Jeff Winston wakes up remembering his entire life up to when his heart gives a last shuddering heave. This is a similar concept to Groundhog Day as Bill Murray keeps waking up remembering everything he has done while repeating the same day over and over again; only Grimwood expands the scope of the idea. 24 hours becomes 25 years.

A quiet middle child of a boisterous Italian family tries to discover who he is and how he fits in with his family when he discovers his father's autobiography ("Age of 13"). Along the way he discovers a long lost relative and shares with a friend who has lost her little brother. Participating in a school play helps him to bring all the pieces together and encourages him to have the strength to be the person he wants to be. Of course, things get more complicated as the replays become shorter and shorter, each time beginning a few months or years closer to Jeff's unavoidable date of death, which never changes. Some of the replays are far from happy, and Jeff realizes that even with several lifetimes to live, there's never enough time to avoid regrets. In the end, living is about recognizing that, and always moving forward.Fiction is full of speculations about where the world would be if Kennedy had lived. Some show a better, more advance world, but others show a world that is much worse than the one we wake up in today. I think many of us feel, even those that were born after the event, that we were robbed of a better version of ourselves, a divergent self that died with Kennedy. #mythology I went into this feeling pretty ho-hum. I’m not a big sports manga person and baseball is my least favorite so I was like at least there are some hottie manga boys for me to fawn over. I can see how some readers, particularly younger ones, might be confused by this story as there are three distinct things going in Leo world: his loving but chaotic home life, his rich fantasy life, and the humorous chaos as he practices for a school play. RePlay by Saki Tsukahara is a standalone yaoi/BL manga, that's being published in February 2020 by Tokyopop. It's focused on two ex-baseball high school players who share more than their passion for this sport. Tsukahara's art style is pretty unique and pleasant to look at. Compared to other yaois out there, this one is not only focused on relationship itself, but also on boys' future, their fears and their passion for the sport. I'm not a big fan of sport manga myself but I liked the way author's woven love for baseball into the story.
