About this deal

After the fall of France in June 1940 the British established a small, but well-trained and highly mobile, raiding and reconnaissance force known as the Commandos. They were party inspired by the mobile commandos of the Boer War (1899-1902).

The 2nd. of 3 booklets in the Super Profile series. Slim, but much useful information and reprinted road testsDeneys Reitz not only saw a lot of action in the war, being involved in many of the most notable battles of which he gives a full personal account, but he also met many of the leaders and most prominent dignitaries involved in the conflict (Kruger, de la Rey, Smuts, Churchill, and others). As such, he is able to provide intimate details on the day to day life of the fighting men, and short vignettes of the personalities that helped a young fledgling nation take a stand against the British Empire. Their next big mission, Operation Jubilee, was a test of the defences of the port of Dieppe on 19 August 1942. Around 5,000 men of the Canadian 2nd Division were joined by 1,075 British commandos, with naval and air support. There have been many books written about the Royal Marines, their history, their battles, their heroes. None have captured their spirit as well as this book.
