Reviews

The movies are great for Halloween, but fans know that Hocus Pocus is perfectly acceptable year round.

I wasn’t sure that they should ‘mess with a classic,’ but was happily surprised that I loved the new film featuring the original Sanderson sisters. Perfect for beginners, this book has 25 witchy cross-stitch patterns that pay homage to the Halloween classic. Many are from Disney, Netflix and Shout Factory, so they feature movies, TV series and characters that your kids already know and love. Fans of the movies will love getting crafty with the Unofficial Hocus Pocus cross stitch pattern book from Ulysses Press. The Starry Ornament cross stitch patterns from Flamingo Toes are ornament shaped but made to display in little festive hoops. I love the kind of retro colors on these, and the addition of pompom trim to the 3-inch hoops for display adds and extra layer of cuteness.

The Merry Stitchmas ornament pattern from Kreinik is meant to be placed in an ornament frame, but a small hoop would work, too. It’s worked in silk thread with gold filament accents, making it a fancy looking design that would be great as a gift. DISPLAY OR GIFT YOUR MASTERPIECE: Tiny embroidery hoop can serve as a frame for your finished work! In the first category, we have this cute Christmas ornament with a car and Christmas tree from Living on the Rainbow on Etsy. This sweet design is meant to be a holiday ball ornament, with instructions for that included in the pattern (she used a sewing machine but it could probably also be stitched by hand). You could also make this design on a card or in a little hoop if you don’t want to make the ball.Includes 3 pieces of 4″ x 4″ cotton Aida cloth, a 3-inch embroidery hoop, 2 tapestry needles, and 4 skeins of embroidery thread The Witch Sisters Coffee Cups pattern made me laugh out loud. If the Sanderson Sisters were coffee drinks, this might be what they would look like. It’s a fun nod to the movie without being too obvious, and it’s great for the PSL loving witch in your life. The design is from MIYA Stitch.
