About this deal

The Grenadier ignites fuel by means of hot air, the temperature of which has been raised by passing over a heated element. The temperature attained by the air is sufficiently high to ignite all domestic fuels. Ignition of fuel is not immediate and will vary from some two minutes for coal to about 10 minutes for hard coke. It is difficult to give ignition times for different fuels as these depend upon many factors including of course, the dampness of the fuel. After you have been using the Grenadier for a while you will discover a way of using it best suited to your application. It took about 4 seconds for the pod to catch fire when we lit it with a single match. It started burning slowly, but within 5 minutes, the flames were about 8 inches tall, and the pod continued burning for about 15 minutes, which was plenty of time to ignite the logs.

For example, if you’re always lighting paper and kindling, you should get 10 starts easily. But, if you’re working with larger pieces of wood or charcoal, you will get 3 or 4, particularly if it’s cold or there’s any moisture present. Warranty and Support Whether using flint & steel, a ferro rod, or a mag bar, you will need a bone-dry bundle of tinder to catch your spark and transfer a flame to larger kindling. Fatwood shavings, birch bark, cattails, dry fluff from plants, or dried animal dung often work well as tinder bundles. Many firestarters, such as Exotac’s Firerod and Prepared4X’s Survival Torch, come with dry, often water-resistant tinder that makes this important step much easier. You can also premake tinder bundles to store in your kit by soaking cotton balls in wax, or gathering dryer lint from home in a waterproof container. The striker is going to last for about 4,000 strikes. It’s not the longest lifespan on our list, but it’s going to get you a fire for years to come if you’re using it right. Lights 20+ fires with each USB charge, and utilizes a refillable butane tank for flame generation (15 minutes of burn time per fill)This thing wins big points for its futuristic feel and simple versatility. Pop open a waterproof safety cap on the butt end of the flashlight to reveal a small dual-arc plasma emitter. Opening the cap flips the flashlight button to an igniter switch, and deep purple arcs of electricity buzz to life when pressed. A safety button and latch ensure the emitter is not exposed until you want it to be. The easiest way to light a charcoal grill is to fill a chimney with charcoal, put flammable material under the chimney grate, and light the material, letting the flames rise through the chimney to ignite the charcoal. This technique is effective with lump charcoal or briquettes that haven’t been pretreated with a match-light activator. Crumpled newspaper, dryer lint, kindling, and commercially made starters are all flammable options that you can light with a match or long-nose lighter.

Another factor you should consider is that leaving your electric starter outside is never a good idea since various types of weather can damage the starter. These types of starters are not designed to withstand heat and humidity as well as other types of inclement weather. You can use tongs to handle the coals safely. These also involve another layer of careful use as they use electricity to operate. Be on the lookout for loose wires and exposed connections just like you would for other electrical appliances. It is worth noting these don’t work as well with lump charcoal as they do with briquettes. Hot Coil Charcoal Starter Great ProductWe love the Grenadier Electric Firelighter. It's great for lighting open fires, and also great for BBQs. It can also be used to direct heat up the chimney in stove installations, before lighting the fire. It's made in the UK, and there is a ready supply of spares available should you need them. (05/05/2011) fluesystems.com - High Wycombe

seconds after first turning on, the air goes into boost mode to inject oxygen, fire’s fuel, at high speed to really get things moving. The heating element turns off at this point. Compared to our runner-up the Gerber Bear Grylls, which requires you to learn how to create sparks with a traditional strike, the UST BlastMatch uses an entirely different method. To use the UST BlastMatch, simply put the tip of the fire starter against the ground on top of your tinder, use your thumb to press the striker against the flint rod, and use pressure against the ground and your fire starter to push down. The result: A mass of sparks that will light your tinder in an average of four strikes or less. High strength flame blower that can even light logs, coconut coals, and other difficult to ignite fuels Additionally, you can use a Looft Lighter X to light a fire anywhere you care to enjoy, such as a fire pit, chiminea, or household fireplace.

Oklahoma Joe’s Propane Charcoal Starter technically is not an electric fire starter, but we wanted to include it here for its stellar price point, awesome portability, and versatility in its applications. As a safety precaution the heating element on the Grenadier can only be switched on by a special removable safety key. The sturdy yet lightweight Grenadier has a wide and rigid stand for stability and is easily adjustable to the correct height and angle for your fire. The Looft Lighter X is a high-tech alternative to matches, butane lighters, and electric charcoal starters for starting and building a fire. It includes a cooling stand (even with a built-in bottle opener!) so I can safely set it down right after use. Forget about newspapers and kindling. We were able to get a real wood fire going using just one small Lightning Nugget. Once lit—it took three matches to light the nugget—it burned brightly with a hot flame about 6 inches high for a little more than 10 minutes. The nuggets are made from a blended composition of all-natural, recycled, and nontoxic flammable materials, including pitchwood sawdust and paraffin wax.The nozzle angles downward from the bottle, making it easy to set the torch to a pile of charcoal or a smoke tube of pellets when adding wood-smoke flavor to grilled salmon or mushrooms. We didn’t find it as useful with a charcoal chimney, whose briquettes need to be lit from below. This new model works exactly like the original with a few improvements. The Looftlighter 2 features the same automated ignition program found in the Looftlighter X. This means you no longer have to hold the button down for it to work.

The fit and finish of the Looft Lighter X is excellent. It looks even better than the original Looft Lighter I, and it’s already in its second generation; gen 1 Looft Lighter X was a little bit slower, so I understand. Concentrated beams of light are an ant’s worst enemy when in the hands of a child. When you put the same light to use in a survival scenario, it works just as well to get a fire started. We hope that you choose to utilize this for the greater good of starting your campfire, rather than creating mass destruction among colonies of innocent ants. Utilizes super-heated air at 1500°F to ignite fires and charcoal in 2-3 minutes without the use of flame Many people use lighter fluids (also known as starter fluids) to get the charcoal going. While the process is relatively simple and the fluid gets the job done fast, there are quite a few problems with using this product.
