While working on the stereo remix, Martin vowed not to do anything that his father and the Beatles would not have done if the technology had been available in 1966. “It’s not my interpretation,” he insists. His priority was to enhance the album’s youthful, anything-goes vitality. “The band are always going to be 25 on ‘Revolver’ — they’re younger than Harry Styles — so they might as well sound like that. That enthusiasm!”

Rodriguez writes that, whereas most contemporary acts shy away from attempting a concept album in the vein of Sgt. Pepper, the prototype established by Revolver, whereby an album serves as an "eclectic collection of diverse songs", continues to influence modern popular music. [85] He characterises Revolver as "the Beatles' artistic high-water mark" [432] and says that, unlike Sgt. Pepper, it was the product of a collaborative effort, with "the group as a whole being fully vested in creating Beatle music". I spoke to Giles last year about mixing The Beatles and I specifically asked him about Revolver and whether the so-called ‘de-mixing’ technology was good enough to allow him to remix the 1966 album. His answer suggested not, but he left the door open for it to happen: Variety further notes that an official announcement about the project, including release date and details on what material will be included, will likely come in September. [269]He had previously experimented with this idea in Ron Howard's 2016 film The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years, butit wasn't until now that the technology has been fully available and useful. Martin described it as being something "like an autopsy," a slightly unsettling analogy that nonetheless emphasizes the importance of each of Revolver's moving parts. "You open it out, and it's really healthy," he said, adding thatit was still crucial to not go overboardwith new technology, using it to only enhance what was already present. "We never do things for the sake of it."
