During and after its German premiere in Berlin on December 4, 1930, Nazi brownshirts under the command of Joseph Goebbels disrupted the viewings by setting off stink bombs, throwing sneezing powder in the air and releasing white mice in the theaters, eventually escalating to attacking audience members perceived to be Jewish and forcing projectors to shut down.

Between 1930 and 1941, this was one of many films to be banned in Victoria, Australia, on the ground of 'pacifism', by the Chief Censor Creswell O'Reilly. The latest in the now dangerously monotone 'war is bad' rhetoric, All Quiet on the Western Front struggles to say anything new but certainly provides a suitably - expectedly - punishing ride. Escaping the clutches of Netflix through limited distribution rights, All Quiet on the Western Front has been able to make a fairly surprisingly swift transition to disc, and 4K disc no less, with its UK iteration coming courtesy of Altitude Film Distribution, who deliver it with outstanding 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision and an utterly reference Dolby Atmos track, as well as a few nice extras to round out the package.

All Quiet on the Western Front's 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release similarly - ostensibly - matches up to its Netflix counterpart with a full 3D High Definition Surround Sound Object-Based immersive audio track in the form of Dolby Atmos. Use the thumbs up and thumbs down icons to agree or disagree that the title is similar to All Quiet on the Western Front.

Despite being directed by Delbert Mann and boasting a star-studded cast (Richard Thomas, Ernest Borgnine, Ian Holm, Donald Pleasance) this version was far from being in the same league as the 1930 version and didn't do the book justice.
