Grobar, Matt (August 9, 2022). " The Pope's Exorcist Finds Its Pope In Django 's Franco Nero; Laurel Marsden, Cornell S. John & Peter DeSouza-Feighoney Also Set For Screen Gems Thriller". Deadline Hollywood . Retrieved September 19, 2022.

However, prior to the movie’s theatrical release in April, the organization condemned the special effects–laden trailer, saying in a March 7 statement it “distorts and falsifies what is truly lived and experienced during the exorcism of truly possessed people.” Amorth’s Exorcism Accounts Hooper, John (2016-09-26). "Father Gabriele Amorth obituary". The Guardian. ISSN 0261-3077 . Retrieved 2023-07-09.LOS ANGELES (AP)—The Rev. Edward Siebert’s journey with “The Pope’s Exorcist,” a film about arguably the most famous exorcist in the Catholic Church, began with an adventuresome visit to Milan about six years ago. The duo attempt to exorcise Henry, without success, as he utters blasphemous phrases during the rite. Henry's demon even possesses Amy at times. Amorth finds Julia has not been a religious believer since childhood. Still, he convinces her to pray after she reveals she believed her guardian angel helped her in her youth.

The IAE made its statement based on a viewing of the film’s trailer, and promised it would be commenting further once the full feature had been seen. In those two books, Father Amorth neither mentions names nor tells the whole story of any exorcism he did. What he does is to explain what an exorcism is, how you assess that it is really needed, what kind of cases needs it, and what typically happens in an exorcism, based on his true experience. Gabriele Amorth was one of the most famous exorcists who ever existed: he was known for his extensive work in this area, having conducted thousands of exorcisms over the course of his career. He was also the founder of the International Association of Exorcists, an organization that brings together Catholic exorcists from around the world to share knowledge and experiences.I found this to be an excellent book. It is not a book of drama and hype or sensationalism. It is instead a calm, prayerful and sincere warning against the devil and his evil influence in this world, and how it has grown in modern society. It is especially interesting that the forward to the American edition/translation is by Fr. Benedict J. Groeschel. For those unfamiliar with him, Fr. Groeschel is a Capuchin Friar, and is a celebrity in the world of Catholicism, known for his insights, intelligence and holiness. Fr. Groeschel is also a psychologist. His forward to the American Edition is not a wholehearted endorsement of the book, but instead begs the reader to exercise discernment whenever attempting to determine if a problem being faced is medical or diabolical. The Pope assigns Amorth to visit a possessed boy named Henry in Spain. Henry, his mother Julia, and his rebellious teenage sister Amy had traveled from America to take possession of a mysterious old Spanish abbey, Julia's husband's sole bequest to his family after he died in a car accident where Henry was present. The traumatized Henry has not spoken since the accident. Following a sinister fire, workers who were restoring the abbey so the family could sell it, leave. Henry starts behaving bizarrely, and supernatural events unfold; serum chemistry panels and MRI show nothing abnormal. Disentangling the real-world inspiration and fictional elements of The Pope’s Exorcist is complicated by differing perceptions of exorcism within the church.

Demonology". The Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume IV. New Advent - Catholic Encyclopedia. January 1908 . Retrieved 2007-03-03. It is true that there are many cases of mental illness. Fr. Amorth cautions against misinterpreting these cases as being cases of possession. Many cases misdiagnosed as mental illness, however, are cured by the Rite of Exorcism, which is spiritual medicine. Most of his "cures" are, therefore, commenced with prayers of blessings.

Kit, Borys (June 27, 2022). "Russell Crowe to Star in Supernatural Thriller The Pope's Exorcist (Exclusive)". The Hollywood Reporter. Archived from the original on June 28, 2022 . Retrieved June 28, 2022. Amorth's convoluted road to the priesthood included fighting as a partisan in World War II, getting a law degree and working as a journalist. He didn't become an exorcist until he was 61. He was no stranger to controversy, claiming Hitler and Stalin were possessed, that pedophile cults operated within the Vatican, and that yoga and Harry Potter were gateways to the demonic. The work of Father Amorth was controversial during his lifetime. The International Association of Exorcists took some time to gain papal endorsement from John Paul II. Even now it is recognised as a “ private association of the Christian faithful” rather than a group coordinated by ecclesiastical authorities.
