About this deal

Manual peelers are available in a straight handle design or a Y-peeler. For the straight handles, the blade is parallel to the handle, so you’ll hold the blade on its side and work in a sideways fashion, sort of like you’re brushing hair. For a Y-peeler, the blade is perpendicular to the handle, so you’ll work in a more vertical motion like you’re painting a wall top to bottom. The difference in stroke can largely be left up to personal preference.

This classic, Swiss-design peeler offers a serrated swivel peeler that is adept at catching onto tough-to-penetrate skins (fuzzy, hard, or smooth), like tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and peaches. The serrated blade is also great for trimming tougher foods, like fresh asparagus and squash.Because it's serrated, it leaves behind very fine ridges on the item that you’re peeling, which provides extra grip on your food to prevent slipping. The imprint is so small, though, that you may not even notice. Type of blade: Do you want a straight or serrated edge blade? Straight edge blades can be better for potatoes and create a more presentable, smooth finish, but serrated edges can be more efficient for soft and delicate fruits. To create long, ribbon-like shapes with a vegetable peeler, you’ll want to peel the vegetable lengthwise for long, strand-like cuts. You can do this with zucchini, asparagus, and carrots. If you find yourself making zoodles more often, it may make sense to add a dedicated spiralizer to your collection of kitchen tools. Fit your Piranha slicing board onto your Piranha Peeler and you now have a mini mandolin which is ideal for slicing your fruits and vegetables into even slices. Great for slicing carrots, onions, potatoes and much more – ideal for creating salads, soups, stews, casseroles and more. Kuhn Rikon scored another winner with this simple design that comes in a well-priced set of three. This sharp, affordable peeler consistently excelled at peeling during our testing. It’s extremely sharp and easy to maneuver, and it slid smoothly over all the food items we tested. The grip has finger-hold ridges, but they may not be perfectly fit for every user. The blade swivels, so it’s at the right angle for cutting, and when all the work is done, cleanup is easy since it’s dishwasher safe. It's also available in a wide variety of colors if you want to add a bit of personality to your toolkit. Both Rubba and Jennifer Pallian, food scientist and recipe developer, recommend stainless steel, as found in our best peeler, the Kuhn Rikon Piranha Y Peeler, 6.25-Inch, since it provides both excellent performance and durability. Most vegetable peelers have a plastic handle, as it’s light and easy to care for.

A good quality potato peeler is a far more efficient way to prepare your fruit and vegetables. Not only can it reduce the amount of time spent in the kitchen, but it can also allow you to prepare food safely and efficiently with minimal waste. There are two main types of peeler that we focused on during testing: swivel and Y-peeler. A Y-peeler is shaped like, in essence, a Y in the handle, with the blade running across the top of the Y. A swivel peeler features a blade in a parallel line with the handle. We prefer a Y-peeler in general, as does Rubba, for better handling. We did note that it didn’t have an eye scooper for the potatoes, so you’ll have to remove those separately. When we peeled lemon rinds, the process was equally as smooth and yielded delicate slices with very little pith (the bitter white layer under the peel). Making your own vegetable chips, whether you fry or bake them, is easier than you think. Almost any root vegetable can be made into homemade vegetable chips. Other options includerutabaga, turnips, celery root, and yuca. The vegetables are peeled, thinly sliced, and then soaked in water. After drained and dried, they are fried, kept warm, and then tossed with seasoned salt. Our journey began with a vision to revolutionize the way people approach cooking. We understand the daily challenges faced in the kitchen and are committed to providing ingenious tools that not only solve these problems but also inspire culinary creativity. Since our inception, Piranha Products has been at the forefront of innovation, bringing cutting-edge kitchen gadgets to households across the globe.

8. Best professional potato peeler: ProCook Y Shaped Potato Peeler

We were able to peel a potato in one minute and 43 seconds with this vegetable peeler, and we found the attached potato eye remover to be helpful. In general, it felt light in our hands and felt comfortable to hold. It also peeled smooth, delicate lemon rind slices. Replacement blades are included in the storage area at the base of the device. The peeler includes a 6-volt adapter, though it can also operate with batteries. This may be a worthwhile investment if you find yourself peeling a lot of potatoes at once. This peeler was extremely smooth and was the fastest peeler we tested—we were able to peel a potato in one minute and 14 seconds. It peeled cleanly with very little resistance. We didn’t encounter any friction on the lemon rind and there was minimal pith. The potato eye removers are located on the sides of the peeler and are hollow circles, so they can also be used for getting a strand of zest from citrus, too. When all is said and done, you can wash this in the dishwasher. You get three peelers in this set, so you can hand the extras off to your kitchen helpers to make your cooking process go even faster. The shandles are plastic, while the blade is made of carbon steel, so while it can be washed in the dishwasher, it’s encouraged to hand wash the peeler instead and dry it thoroughly.
