About this deal

What a poorly written book; I’ve never thought the word bland would describe a novel but somehow it does for this effort. The softcover version most recent novel featuring the iconic Detective Jane Tennison – Dark Rooms will be available from 16th February 2023. I enjoyed this, though probably as much because of Jane's own insightful ponderings and methodical problem (crime) solving than the mysteries on offer. Extremely unprofessional, and for an obnoxious, overbearing, pompous character like our “heroine”, I would have expected professionalism. Over the last few years, I have had a great time getting through the amazing Tennison series by iconic crime fiction author Lynda La Plante.

However, and believe me I hate to leave a negative review, but wow; there was very little I enjoyed of this book. Jane's given little (well, no) kudos for her work but having also uncovered a baby's bones during the investigation she's is keen to pursue it, particularly when she discovers the newborn was smothered.Jane Tennison is leading a murder investigation into the recent brutal death of a young girl, her decomposed, starved body discovered in an old air raid shelter in the garden of the Lanark's now derelict house.

Last year she sent a couple of your books, this year a couple more, including WIDOWS REVENGE,but this is the second one in the series,so cannot read it yet I am now hooked on them, have you any idea where they are available here. The formulaic narrative and over-referencing certain aspects of the era did prove too prominent at times. Yet her clashes with her DCI set the scene for her determination to resolve this case, even if it means working alone. The eighth instalment in a series featuring detective Jane Tennison, the prolific Lynda La Plante’s latest Dark Rooms is an absorbing read.Knowing I was going to read this instalment I referred to the first Tennison book with a view to drawing on some background information about the characters; that said, I don’t think this is essential for understanding if you’re planning to embark on this particular novel. The worst part of all is when Page discovers that her colleagues have already determined Cindy is the killer, and have charged her with the act. She trained for the stage at RADA and worked with the National theatre and RSC before becoming a television actress. La Plante does insert some great dramatic elements behind it, especially behind the tragic nature of the events behind it, as well as the unreliability of the main witness, which increases the emotional impact of the story. I had a struggle to complete the book and once I have completed reading it, the ending was lackluster.

More than anything else, La Plante’s writing career was generated by famous books Cold Blood,Cold Shoulder and Cold Hard. The brief storyline with the weed was so so so unneeded and began with ooh whats Eddie hiding and ended abruptly a chapter later, why? Jane seemed to have a bee in her bonnet and at times it felt like she was inserting herself in all the wrong places. Lynda has a strong focus on crime and thriller, as she discovered when she wrote her first series for Thames Television, Widows, in 1983.As a retired police officer myself, I can say that she explores and provides in-depth knowledge of police and forensic procedure to a really high level, and that alone is very impressive considering she was never actually a serving police office herself.

She must decide if she will risk her life to bring the killer to justice simply to claim the reward, or if she should leave the task to someone more experience, more willing, and more trusting than she will ever be able to trust herself after her difficult and harrowing past.

On the upside we got to see loads more entitled and judgemental attitude from Jane, so that was delightful. Jane Tennison is leading a murder investigation into the recent brutal death of a young girl, her decomposed starved body discovered in an old air raid shelter in the garden of the Lanark’s now derelict house. Initially the focus is on identifying the victim, until another body is found, hidden in the walls of the shelter. The thrilling new Detective Jane Tennison crime novel from the Queen of Crime Drama - now available in paperback, eBook and audiobook. An excellent police procedural, mystery, detective story with a London location, tense plot and very well-drawn characters, Ms.
