About this deal

That said, the word “bourbon” is missing from the bottle — a conscious design choice, not wanting to compete head-to-head with the flood of bourbons on the market. The name comes from gold miners in Colorado, who used to drink their whiskey from a tin cup - as such, the lid of Tincup American Whiskey can be used as a drinking vessel.

Luke is a Level I Certified Whiskey Specialist with a passion for exploring and unearthing the best whiskeys around. The taste is smooth and delicious, without any burning or biting sensations, which is always a good thing to see. I reckon in a blind tasting you'd have folks thinking is this a bourbon or is it a Midleton release? While it lacks the depth and complexity that many whiskey aficionados look for, Tincup is mild and easy to drink. And yes - a decent Old Fashioned (and Manhattan), as it's very rye-y, and rye's what really belongs in an Old Fashioned. While Tincup checks all the criteria to be a bourbon, it does not label itself as one – likely for marketing purposes. As I mentioned, there isn’t much there in terms of depth and complexity, but it completely lacks any burn at all. Colorado isn’t particularly known for their distilling prowess — brewing, yes; distilling… not so much. It’s sweet at first, with some caramel notes, but it quickly develops some texture and complexity with the addition of some cherry and orange citrus flavors coming in slowly but surely as the flavor matures.

Tin Whiskey opens in Cocoa Village after 2-year renovation

I’m always a sucker for small batch custom production, but as long as you don’t try to pass off some re-bottled MGP as the same as something from, say, Tuthilltown… we’re good. Two friends and their wives teamed up to produce a bourbon that they would name after one couples daughter that was yet to be born. This is a pretty common trait with the addition of some ice, so not a strike against this particular bourbon — just a fact of on-the-rocks life.Whittaker knew pandemic diners wanted to be outside, even in the boiling heat of Space Coast summers. The pair started talking whiskey and instantly formed a friendship; six years later, in 2004, they drew upon George’s experience with the alcohol industry (he was the owner of Flying Dog Brewery) and opened a distillery — the first legal distillery in the state of Colorado since prohibition. What’s even cooler is the bottle design itself: an almost Victorian style, with a hexagonal shape and the branding embossed onto the sides of the glass bottle itself. As mentioned previously, Tincup was originally a mining town, and the miners would drink out of, and carry gold in, tin cups. Much like TX Whiskey does to the Texan lifestyle (which you can read about HERE), Tincup Whiskey does a lot of marketing to the Colorado mountain-man lifestyle.
