Like last year’s design, there’s not a great way to manage cables around the back - which means you’ll be looking at a G2 OLED if you want some way to keep cables out of sight. Saying that, I was pleasantly surprised at the everyday sound quality for normal TV viewing in an average sized UK living room. LG's C-series OLEDs have barely changed in appearance since the C9 was introduced in 2019, so it's good to see at least some changes being made for the C2.
The width of the soundstage with AI Sound Pro is appreciated, as is the focus on dialogue, but there’s sibilance to speech when watching daytime shows such as The Bidding Room and The Chase. One of the key changes is the stand, which has a smaller footprint that helps in planting the TV on surfaces large and small.
This year sees the C2 carry the brighter OLED evo panel that LG brought to the market in 2021 with its G1 OLED. The color saturation has also been increased thanks to the new Evo panel, to around 100% of the DCI-P3 color space.
With the Game Optimiser menu there’s room to customise the C2’s performance for whatever game you’re playing, whether that’s adjusting the latency or changing brightness levels. The C2 range includes 42in, 48in, 55in, 65in, 77in and 83in screen sizes, making this an ideal choice for anyone looking for an OLED that can be used as a smaller gaming monitor, an all-purpose family TV or a big-screen home cinema. Dolby Atmos processing is activated when Atmos soundtracks are detected, presenting them in a virtual 7. As before, the pleasingly rich overall character remains consistent from last year’s G1, but there’s more punch and pop to the new model’s performance. Standard and Eco give you an anytime viewing mode that looks decent enough for most types of content (although very colorful scenes did look overly noisy).
