About this deal

Amphipod Hydraform Handheld Water Bottle: Perfect for long runs when you need hydration in the summer

Additionally, the Brooks Divide 3 performs well under mild to moderate weather thanks to its breathable engineered mesh upper. This feature helps keep your feet cool and dry during warmer weather while offering a decent level of protection from light rain and dampness. Where Brooks Divide 3 Falls Short in Performance? However, Brooks makes no promises with the Divide 3 when it comes to mud, snow, ice, and especially tight turns, rather marketing the shoe as perfect for runners who frequent city parks or neighborhood paths. Like the Cascadias, I’ve treated the Divide 3 as a commuter car, reliably and affordably logging the miles and performing well from road to less technical trail in my temperate and relatively dry climate. The Brooks Divide is not a good option for runs longer than 6-8 miles on trail or road. You could do it occasionally but, in my opinion, the firm midsole is not conducive to extended sessions. The Glycerin has always been Brooks’ 'super soft' shoe, and with the 20 th version, the brand now boast that its softness is 'supreme'. This is because the chunky midsole from heel to toe is made up of its new nitrogen-infused DNA Loft V3 foam. The nitrogen infusion changes the cell structure of the foam, creating cushioning which is lighter but also has more energy return. Our testers loved this soft – 'but not too soft' – cushioning and many described the shoe as 'comfortable', thanks to both the foam, as well as the gently hugging heel cup. From time to time carriers may deliver earlier or later, or on non working days however this is cannot be guaranteed nor should it be expected. In terms of fit and sizing, the Brooks Divide 3 adheres to standard shoe measurements, ensuring a true-to-size fit for most runners. Jeff V: The Divide 3 has dropped a few grams, has a more generous toe box, yet has a far superior and secure upper. The new midsole featuring Loft DNA is more lively and feels more compliant underfoot and traction, while not quite as aggressive as previous, is more versatile and better aligns with the intent of the shoe.

The platform of the Divide 3 is rigid but offers enough flexibility to feel the trail beneath you. It isn't the most sensitive shoe, but it also isn't the least. I’ve always found road shoes to be more comfortable than trail shoes, but trail shoes to be more versatile and capable than road shoes. A new addition to Brooks’ excellent Hyperion speed series, the highly cushioned Hyperion Max is a real crowd-pleaser. The Hyperion midsole offering has evolved considerably since 2019’s first Hyperion Elite, which featured Brook’s DNA Zero foam. This was replaced with DNA Flash in the Hyperion Tempo Elite for a softer, bouncier ride; and the Hyperion Max is the Tempo’s more cushioned, yet ever-so-slightly lighter sibling. And while their secure and comfortable stretch woven uppers are the same, their rides underfoot are anything but.

Bonus points for a dark-colored outsole. Points off for no reflectivity. C’mon, guys... Overall thoughts on the Brooks Divide Skratch Recovery, Coffee Flavor:Mental and physical boost post run. Coffee flavor is excellent and goes great straight into a fresh brewed cup The Divide combines the best of both worlds and gives you a shoe that can do everything a trail shoe can, while feeling as good as a road shoe. There should be more shoes like the Divide. Despite this shortcoming, the Divide 3 presents sufficient traction for novice trail runners transitioning from road to trail, ensuring stability and confidence across diverse trail environments. 4. Breathability

I would not recommend the Divide 3 as a dedicated trail shoe unless you’re using it primarily for shorter runs on easy to moderate-difficulty trails. If you’re putting in a lot of long trail miles you’ll be better served by a dedicated trail shoe. How I will use the Divide 3

Our Verdict

Step-in feel and impression is also quite nice. Having enough room upfront is always a good thing in my book, and they just feel solid and supportive underfoot. I detect a slight curvature under the arch which I appreciate, without any unevenness or gaps underfoot as I felt with the Caldera. Just a nice, no-nonsense overall fit and feel. SAM: It seems almost counterintuitive that we’re closing out a 2022 of hybrid road-to-trail shoes with the latest installment in the Brooks Divide series. You’d think that the quintessential “my first running shoe” company would be all over this part of the market with an offering primed to start a new wave of road-to-trail runners. The Divide gets Brooks’s BioMoGo DNA midsole, which is a cushion-first material. Once again, this gives the Divide the feel of a road shoe. This superior breathability makes it an ideal choice for warmer weather and extended distances, setting it apart from competitors in its class.

Jeff V: Another favorite of mine the SR4 is easy to slide on and off, snug down, has accommodating, yet secure fit, comparable traction with performance very similar. I do find the Divide 3 to be a bit more runnable and have better protection underfoot. If your training involves running on roads/sidewalks in your neighborhood and also hitting the trails in the park, this is your shoe. It’s hard to put a finger on it, but it still feels as if the components of the Divide are working together, but aren’t quite joined at the hip. The Divide isn’t more than the sum of its parts, at least not yet. About the only trail-first characteristic of the Divide is the tread, but it’s enough to place the shoe firmly in the trail category.

The Good

Another tester, however, didn’t get on too well with the heel drop, which at 12mm, is much higher than many other stability shoes on the market, such as the Saucony Guide 16's 8mm and Hoka Arahi’s 5mm. A few testers also felt they were a little too heavy for running at faster pacers, so wouldn’t work so well for speedwork or racing. Jeff V. runs mostly on very steep technical terrain above Boulder often challenging well known local FKT's.
