June 13: More brand-new Bratz artwork debuts at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, as well as a sneak peek of a potential Pretty ‘N’ Punk Fashion Organizer Hatbox reproduction. Mini Bratz Series 3 was first found at a Target store in California in early November. The series officially includes scaled-down reproductions of: Note: Yasmin, Cloe, and Jade were released as part of a first wave, while Sasha, Meygan, and Eitan were released as part of a second wave. As of June 2023, this collection is expected to be a reproduction of the Slumber Party line. If so, it is unknown if this will be a reproduction of the first or second edition of the Slumber Party line. In September 2023, Isaac Larian posted a teaser of upcoming Mini Bratz. Both of the Mowalola dolls have new and unique screenings with features previously not seen on any Bratz dolls. The eye and lip shapes for both dolls are similar, but there are subtle differences to differentiate the screenings. Jade has bold winged eyeliner on her upper and lower eyelids with no eyelashes. Jade also has two different colored eyes, one being a greyish blue and the other being red, and heart-shaped shine dots. Jade has semi-shaved eyebrows, with only the start of the eyebrows being visible. Felicia has two eyeliner wings on both her upper and lower lids, as well as a more experimental eyeshadow look and yellow eyebrows. Felicia has greyish blue eyes with star-shaped shine dots. Both characters have graphic lip makeup, with painted-on gap teeth using the open-mouth head mold. This is a nice change of pace for the Bratz brand as it shows a more unique and bold side of beauty compared to standard Bratz dolls. In many press releases, it is stated that Mowalola “aimed to break subcultures and boundaries by pushing for ‘firsts’ in the doll space, resulting in dolls with distinct graphic lines, bold brows, mismatched eyes, horned hair, and unique features”—this definitely shows through the dolls’ unique facial features. Both dolls use the standard 2001 open mouth head mold. After leaving Central Saint Martins, Ogunlesi applied to the Fashion East mentorship and support programme. I want to give a huge conBratzulations to Stephen Sumner for taking on the task of designing a brand-new Sasha for this line! In my opinion, he is a legend in the doll world and has designed for some of my favorite doll lines from the past twenty years—including the Hottiez line, which he co-created! I’ve always wanted to see Stephen work on the Bratz brand since he started working at MGA, so I’m happy to see him stepping into that territory. I also think it is a HUGE deal that MGA and the Bratz team decided to include Sasha in this line, especially because they started from scratch with her and used no source material. Some people can disagree, but I can happily say that Sasha’s design is a perfect addition to this collection and she fits in perfectly while standing out in the way only Sasha can. While Mowalola brought an edgy-luxe feeling to the brand, the Cult Gaia dolls bring a more elegant-luxe feeling that aligns well with the designer brand. She was originally planned to return in the Bratz 2015 reboot in the cancelled “ Denim” line in 2016 though due to the brand being put on hiatus once more due to old-time fans poor response to the more childish reboot Felicia’s doll was cancelled. There’s was also plans of her being in the My Passion line though no prototype photos have been resurfaced as of now.
Reimagining two signature Bratz Collector dolls, the collection sees fan favourites, Felicia and Jade, upgrade their looks with exclusive collaboration pieces. According to the brand in a statement, the limited-edition dolls aim to represent the youthful spirit of both brands and fall in line with Bratz’s foray into the world of fashion. Theorizing ‘N’ Accessorizing About Upcoming Bratz Dolls, Leaks, and Future!One thing I will note, though you could probably tell on sight, is that their hair has a lot of product in it (almost definitely glue.) I would normally consider this a huge negative, however, I fully believe the Tweevils would wear at least this much hairspray. Maybe more. Kaycee has definitely put gorilla glue in her hair. I wasn't too excited about the dolls I saw on that particular shopping expedition, but many of the releases since then have been real head-turners. Bratz has done several artist collaborations in the past year, including small collections with designer brands like GCDS, JimmyPaul, Cult Gaia, and Mowalola. I find these dolls especially exciting because they're basically guaranteed to offer something new and fun.
