Since 2004, I have worked on PCMag’s hardware team, covering at various times printers, scanners, projectors, storage, and monitors. In preparing files for printing, I mostly used Creality Slicer, though I processed a couple of files with Cura (using the latter's settings for the Ender-5, as the Pro isn't yet included in Cura's pull-down list of printers). However, keep in mind that with the possible exception of the 470mm CR-M4, a larger printer generally isn’t a bad thing, and you may find yourself really wanting a larger build area later.With a carborundum bed, you wont need to use any additional adhesives like hairspray, but it is critical that you clean the bed with a damp cloth after every 5-10 prints to maintain the adhesion of the bed surface. I have had it a little over a week and I have printed with it every day and have only have to re-level the bed once.
The open material system allows for printing with third-party filaments, while the open-source hardware leaves room for lots of upgrades and mods. You’ll only have to assemble the cubic structure by screwing the top and base frames to the vertical aluminum profiles. Just be aware that an object being printed may appear to be rotated 180 degrees from how you saw it in your slicing software's preview. As an upgrade option for the CR-M4, we'd recommend switching out the bed surface for a magnetic PEI spring steel bed (if you can find one in the 450mm size) or rigid glass, for easier part removal. With its modern features and improved design, this is a premium-feeling printer in an affordable package.With a 220 x 220 x 250 mm (X, Y, Z) print volume, they’re still large enough to print models and small parts, and won’t take up too much space on a desk.
