Aside from its ability to cut narrow passages and handle slopes with inclines of up to 40 per cent, it also features electric cutting height adjustment (from 20-50mm), a TargetHeight function which lowers the cutting height automatically if necessary, and a weather timer which monitors the lawn’s growth rate so that the mower doesn’t make too many unnecessary cuts. It has LED headlights, too, presumably so the owner can look out from his man-study and watch its silhouette trundle across his modest sward while sipping on a G&T. Moreover, it should also raise an alarm once the mower leaves the ground. It might be a thief who is trying to take control of your possession. There is a function wherein you need to enter a pin code to activate the mower again once it leaves the ground. Some of this comes from the comparatively sparse box. Where most robots are supplied with charging stations, pegs and rolls of boundary wire, the VBRM16’s accessories are minimal. There is a charger for the battery but it’s a standalone device about the size of a tub of margarine, which can be stored anywhere and plugged in as needed. The removable battery is also in the box and needs charging before the mower’s first use.

Most people have medium-size or small gardens, and that is who this smart, compact robot lawn mower from Flymo is targeted at. It cuts lawns up to 250 square metres in size, with its intelligent guide wire allowing its owner to specify cutting areas (multiple ones, even). All the robotic mowers follow a mapping system to navigate. You need to set an area using boundary wire and you can also peg it around obstacles. When a robotic mower reaches its boundary wire it changes the direction. There’s a button on the control panel which you can press after popping the mower down in whichever area needs touching up. It’ll then use a spiral pattern to trim any longer bits of grass and ensure a uniform finish over the whole lawn. Cutting Pattern When the update is finished (this may take several minutes), the mower will beep continuously. The flash drive can now be removed. The mower will beep twice indicating that the software update is complete.
However, you can add additional functions and take greater control over the mower using an app on your smartphone. This lets you start and stop the mower remotely (though it only supports Bluetooth, so you still have to be in the vicinity). More crucially, it lets you control exactly when the robot should head out for a run, with two programmable mowing slots available for each day of the week, so you can really fine-tune your mowing. I have found that keeping the lawn that bit longer, helps during the hotter drier months to retain moisture and look greener and healthier. Safety Features As I mentioned, I tried this machine out on my 100m² front lawn and within three hours, it had as good as completed the entire thing with power to spare. Typically, you’ll get around four hours out of a single charge, but this does depend on the conditions such as whether there are any slopes or how bumpy the ground is. You can maintain a small lawn using an electric mower or even a manual push variant. After all, how much it could to cut the grass from a small area? But, what if your lifestyle is very hectic?
