You knew coming off of the end of Gleam that this was not going to be a light and breezy book, even on top of Auren still working through a decade of grooming and abuse. Normally, I not a huge fan of the Marriage trope, but this seems like such an easy way to extend Slade's protection to Auren.

So I will fight for him and he will kill for me, and if we need to become the villains, then so be it. Book 3 of this adult fantasy series continues in this epic story inspired by the myth of King Midas, fae, fated romance, and insurmountable greed. At the end of the day, if you already LOVE this series and this Ship, then you will probably love this book as well. In this book though, we really get a lot from Slade and his story is both tragic and one of strength.If you are reading this as a part of a binge you will likely have more moments of tears than if you were to read this like I am as the books come out.

Additionally, Digby is taking his role as Aurens guard very seriously and it really warms the heart. Make sure you check out my reviews of the previous books and if you haven’t yet read this series I recommend you do before diving into this review. There wasn’t a single question, discussion, thought process, or scenario in my mind that the author did not explore which I, as an abuse survivor on the “other side” of life in a healthy and loving relationship, both loved and appreciated SO MUCH.There are deep connections with abuse and mental health themes, please check trigger warnings if that is something you may need.
