About this deal

Now, with the X-Top innovation, the latest Carboflex rackets do feel faster through the air than the Airshaft – but if I’m being critical, I found the difference to be subtle. Tecnifibre has opted to remove the bumper strip on their latest Carboflex X-Top, instead designing a brand-new ‘Active Fibre’ material (a combination of Kevlar and Teflon). Note** when an overgrip is installed, you will not be able to see the re-grip if chose to have it installed. Speaking of Nour Sherbini’s racket – the Carboflex Airshaft 125NS – I was happy to see this make a reappearance after its introduction in the X-Speed range.

We’re now almost a month into Coronavirus quarantine, what better way to pass the time than to spend money on things you couldn’t possibly use. The new Tecnifibre branding is hard to miss, and it’s topped off by a subtle silver Mohamed Elshorbagy signature on the side of the frame. To summarise the new Tecnifibre Carboflex Airshaft range, they continue the tradition of being well balanced, all round rackets suited to a wide variety of playing styles. However, for club level players still developing this aspect of their game, they’ll have a harder time consistently finding the sweet spot, and therefore the unforgiving feel is going to be a little more noticeable. All four rackets are strung with Tecnifibre’s new Dynamix VP strings, which claims to offer more elasticity and more power. The Carboflex X-Speed 130 is 5 grams heavier and has a somewhat higher balance point and is therefore a bit less agile. Tecnifibre Carboflex X-Top 135 – No professionals inside the top 30 currently use this racket, however this should be well suited towards intermediate-level players. The 125 and 130 both made light work of hitting the ball hard and fast – though it was tough to distinguish between the two.

However the scenarios where the ball was pretty much riding the wall and had to dig those balls out, the elimination of the bumper does help glide and slide the racquet better along the walls for getting those wallpaper balls back in play. This newer version of the iconic Carboflex range, has been redesigned at the Airshaft section to improve aerodynamics and increase acceleration. This racket is the most solid of the models and therefore particularly suitable for players who are looking for a powerful racket which is easy to play with. By weighing the 125 rackets across two scales like this, I found the new Airshaft rackets had around 7g more weight in the head.Though again, given its relatively similar overall weight, the difference was far less obvious than I’d originally anticipated. We’re sorry about this limitation, but in keeping with our high standards of service, we have as yet to find a carrier that can execute this in a consistently high-quality fashion. A little bit of weight at the top of a racket can make a significant difference to how it feels through the air, as you’re moving the centre-of-mass away from the handle and therefore altering the balance point. If not then it is a bit pointless removing the bumper in the first place, and if when it wears we have to fit a bumper even more pointless!

The grip itself isn’t much thinner, only by a couple of millimetres, but it made a noticeable difference for me.Where older Tecnifibres were billed as being evenly weighted, the new Airshaft range appears to be more head heavy, with the balance point almost 2cm higher up the rackets. Joking aside, the additional weight in the head of these rackets really helps to inject some additional power into your shot.
