About this deal

I think it is a must for every child’s bookshelf – beautiful and just as enchanting as when the first book appeared in 1923.

Flower Fairies - Wikipedia Flower Fairies - Wikipedia

The entire read is a magical experience filled with load of educational information and beyond cute in so many delightful ways! This book has lovely poetry, which at times I struggle with since I am not that much into poetry, but the drawings, colorings, the feel of the book just makes you want more. If I'm being honest, some of the poems are better than others, but I love the whole concept so much and the art is always five stars in my book.Below are the eight original Flower Fairies books and the dates they were published by Cicely Mary Barker's original publisher, Blackie. Small bookseller label, some abrasions caused by old cellotape, and the name of previous owner on front end papers. I've already reviewed all the individual publications contained in this book, so I'll keep this review short and sweet and focused more onhte format details herein. Very nice copy though the former child-owner's name remains on "My Page", the rest of her information was erased and the bracelet was removed.

My suspicions were further aroused when I went to add the poetry collection of Goodreads, which showed a much high page count (80-90 to a measly few) between volumes. I was ecstatic when I found this book, which is a compilation of many smaller books that Cicely Barker created. Like the Pre-Raphaelite painters whom she so much admired, she believed in recreating the beauty of nature in art and in drawing from life. Originally this book was published as eight individual books, but now it can be enjoyed in a stunning complete collection that tells the tales of those magical beings found in our gardens, who have come to teach us all about flowers.

Through the beautiful illustrations the author brings to life the magic of flowers and how each has their very own special place in a garden. This collector s favorite has been redesigned and now features a lavish, eye-catching jacket with silver foil.

The Complete Book of The Flower Fairies - Flower Fairies

The Flower Fairies have become a bit commercialized and there are many derivative books out there now and many only use use pieces of her artwork ignoring the poetry or using only a few tidbits. This collection is most complete and authentic that I've found, though reading a review elsewhere it sounds like editions pre-1990s are best as even these "complete" books in recent years have left out a few of the fairies. Since the publication of Cicely Mary Barker's first book in 1923, the Flower Fairies have been ethereal companions to generations of readers around the world.

I loved the Flower Fairies so much when I was young and now being able to read this with my daughter was such a lovely experience. Having all the stories compiled in one volume definitely remains handy, though the format wa a touch off putting at times. Perfect for fans of all ages, this wonderful collection includes all the original Flower Fairy poems and illustrations by Cicely Mary Ba.
