About this deal

Water-resistant formula lasts from shampoo to shampoo, but stays put when you sleep, sweat, or swim. The award-winning haircare range has scooped countless awards and cemented its 25-year reputation as one of the industry’s leaders for those who rely on colour in their hair. We also considered how well each formula works on different hair types and how easily the formula blends with your natural (or dyed) color. If you dye your hair frequently, you know the pesky reality of the time between visits to the salon.

While the colour range is quite expansive too – with six shades including warm blonde and mahogany brown. The rounded, sponge-tip makes precise application—and covering either large or small spots—a breeze. But on darker hair, grays can look quite pronounced, making a semi-permanent root cover-up a better option. Use free hand to pull hair flat and taut against head, and press brush down firmly into roots, starting from scalp and working out. Housed in a small sleek black case this root touch up clips open to reveal a mirror, a small two ended brush and the coloured powder. However, for in-salon touch-ups, he suggests doing them every six to eight weeks to best protect the integrity and color of the hair (which can sometimes fade or dull out over time).

Grays tend to blend in on lighter hair or hair that is highlighted, so you can probably get away with using a spray or powder to lightly blend them in. He further explains that it’s necessary to work gradually, using small amounts (of product) and apply more if and as it's needed. For root touch-ups, in particular, explains celebrity hairstylist, Andrew Fitzsimmons, it's not just about trying to match the exact shade of your hair. We found the precision nozzle really useful when we sprayed the cover up on our hair, while it covered our outgrown hair colour in just one spray. Arguably the best part is its cushion-tipped applicator which conceals grays on hard-to-reach areas—like your temple or hair part—where the pesky strands usually appear first.Cookies collect information about your preferences and your devices and are used to make the site work as you expect it to, to understand how you interact with the site, and to show advertisements that are targeted to your interests. Infused with biotin, pearl extract, and mica, it’ll keep your color shiny while strengthening your hair—a double win. It’s buildable, adheres seamlessly to your hair—meaning no dusty fallout—and won’t feel greasy or sticky at all. While a root touch-up spray can’t hurt, he recommends using purple conditioners, which work to counteract brassiness, frizziness, and an over dullness that can occur in dyed hair.

Although we did find that the cover up worked better on freshly washed hair, rather than two-day old roots. The application is easy too – the top screws off to reveal a cushioned applicator, with the cream like touch up already on the brush.

Color Wow’s products keep colour-treated hair looking fresh and vibrant in between colouring sessions, and they also offer an extensive range of products designed to protect hair and prevent thinning, along with reducing frizz. The push down applicator easily pumped out the dry foam liquid which gave our hair a thin coat of colour. Plus, its quick-drying powder formula applies simply and absorbs dirt and oil to instantly refresh hair.
