About this deal

The organic matter breaks down in the soil into a sticky substance containing humic acids or humates which hold the soil particles together loosely and trap moisture and nutrients. Chemical fertilizers tend to leach, or filter away from the plants, requiring additional applications. This is a balanced general fertiliser which contains all the vital plant nutrients and the trace elements that are essential for growth, flowering and fruit production. A good layer of organic compost will supply your plants with everything your plants need to grow strong and healthy. Special interests include hardy shrubs, trees, herbaceous perennials, flower bulbs, wildlife and garden design; he has authored books on all of these subjects.

Potash also helps to harden growth, potentially making foliage more resistant to disease and weather. Q4 Pelleted Fertiliser should be applied to the growing media before sowing and planting flowers and vegetables. It contains all the plant foods and trace elements essential for vigorous growth, abundant flowering and ripening of fruit. You are reminded of the following legal requirements relating to the purchase and use of professional pesticides. Not sure about synthetic fertilisers causing toxic build up, Bathgate, or plants flopping over because of undeveloped root systems. Often those synthetic fertilizers will cause an unnatural growth spurt (like taking hormones) but will flop over because of undeveloped root system.

Jimmytheone - I do it annually because I'm doing other people's gardens, but sometimes I don't, and that decision is made based on whether the client was prepared to stump up for the cost of the topdressing of composted manure or whatever from the garden centre the previous year (they often aren't) and also how wet the winter's been. For roses Vitax Q4 should be mixed with the soil prior to planting and then used as an annual dressing every Spring. Organic fertilizers are naturally occurring substances and include biofertilizers, green manure, organic manure and compost. When I remove the bulbs from pots in spring I tip the growing medium into a barrow, add a few handfuls of Vitax Q4 professional and mix it up. If you're a follower of 'no dig' gardening, then broadcast the growmore and apply a mulch over the top, without digging the soil, provided there's no weed/moss growth present.Surely the commercial fertiliser companies wouldn't advise this if it may result in a toxic build up in the soil of arsenic, cadmium and uranium. They contain seaweed to stimulate plant growth; seaweed is also reputed to make plants more resistant to stress from lack of water.

Vitax Q4 contains the vital plant foods and trace elements essential for vigorous plant growth, abundant flowering and ripening of fruit, and is available in an easy to handle, low dust pelleted form. Soils rich in organic matter re also better at hanging on to nutrients and supplying them to plants’ roots. What I usually do is broadcast growmore in the latter half of March or early April, turning it in lightly to provide a readily available 'fix' for the plants, then apply composted materials as a mulch over the top - no need to dig it in (though you can if you prefer) it gets taken down into the soil anyway over time, to take care of longer term plant and soil health. So even if you have poor soil or tired growing media lacking in organic matter these fertilisers deliver essential humates. He has designed and advised on gardens of all sizes and was responsible for the Hillier Gold Medal winning exhibit at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower for 25 years. Vitax Q4 Premium liquid fertilisers have been specially developed to give your plants all the benefits of Vitax Q4 straight away. Use 140 g/m2 (4 oz/sq yd) before sowing and planting, or for established plants as an annual dressing in the spring.

Can anyone else agree that Growmore or Vitax Q4 are good fertilisers that do what they say and feed your plants consistently well?

But I wonder if the average gardener can tell the difference between a plant that looks fine and one that looks something slightly better, then do we need to feed for feeding's sake? Originally developed for the commercial grower, Q4 Fertiliser is the trusted choice for producing bigger, brighter blooms and bumper crops.
