About this deal

Usually books say a tree has a very specific type of twig, leaf, or bark, but the truth of the matter is, depending on the conditions, any individual trait can vary amazingly. Look for them in hedges and woodland edges, with full bloom in the spring and heavy with berries in the autumn. Willow buds are tightly pressed against the twig (adpressed, as in this image) whereas those of oak and beech stick out at an angle. A useful book that covers all the most common trees and some rarities that are sold from nurseries and garden centres in the UK and also includes information about cultivation and size. It’s not exhaustive of course (how can it be in less than 300 pages) but as a newbie it’s really nice to be able to look at similar leaves (or similar fruits, flowers, etc) one next to each other instead of having to jump back and forth different pages.
