If you love espionage novels where the spies rely on chalk marks and dead drops, then you need to read this book. Although I didn't begin reading Clancy until the late '90s, I remember watching the fall of the Berlin Wall on television as a kid. You have to take the books on their own merit now and you can’t treat Red Winter like Jack’s next assignment after Patriot Games. It is mentioned that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq occurred in the Ryan universe continuity, and that the Jerusalem Treaty signed in The Sum of All Fears was not entirely successful as some Israelis and Palestinians continue fighting each other.Marc Cameron has done an admirable job on this installment and I think Tom Clancy fans will be very happy.
