About this deal

It’s not a conventional sequel; plot-wise, the only link is the late emergence of the “Morning Star”.

The Wolves of Eternity by Karl Ove Knausgaard - Publishers Weekly The Wolves of Eternity by Karl Ove Knausgaard - Publishers Weekly

It tells the story of two half-siblings: Syvert, who, when the novel begins in 1986, is 19 and living near Bergen with his mother and younger brother, Joar; and Alevtina, a Russian biologist and single parent whose principal academic interest is in plant consciousness. When I read their books, I often get this strange, nonsensical feeling that this is the point and purpose of my consciousness. Then, just as I was changing targets, I heard a car come up from the road and went round to the front of the barn to let Mum know where I was. With middle-age approaching and her ambitions waning, Alevtina decides to finally look into her biological father, learning that he died many years ago, leaving two sons. Knausgaard’s first novel, Out of the World, was the first ever debut novel to win the Norwegian Critics’ Prize and his second, A Time for Everything, was widely acclaimed. He also gets into mischief with his old football friends, falls in love, and takes a job as an undertaker.

The Wolves of Eternity - Penguin Random House

The Wolves of Eternity, like some 19th-century Russian novel, wrestles with the great contraries: the materialist.

Book Review: ‘The Wolves of Eternity,’ by Karl Ove Knausgaard

There are forays into shamanism, cryogenics and medical rejuvenation (think of tech entrepreneur Bryan Johnson, recently much in the news), as well as attempts to reverse death (if you’ve ever wanted to see a decollated dog licking its chops, know that Sergei Brukhonenko’s “Experiments in the Revival of Organisms” is available to view in its entirety on Wikipedia). But while some light is cast in “Wolves” on the nature of the coming apocalypse, it’s less like we’re rushing than slouching toward Revelation.
