About this deal

Although, how much does the fact that there are so many thrillers that we become desensitised to the shocking reveal? Now, instead of having to pay attention to the plot, I could really focus on how masterfully Alex Michaelides built up the mystery and its reveal.

The Silent Patient might not be the worst novel I’ve read but it’s a b

Along the way, we get snippets into Alicia's diary leading up to the murder, alongside of Theo's POV. Unbeknownst to Theo, before Alicia blacks out from the drugs, she wrote down her story and revealed Theo as the masked intruder. It premiered on August 30, 2022, on FX on Hulu and concluded on October 25 of that same year, consisting of ten episodes. She’s been accused of murdering her husband, while the man who stalks her, breaks in to her home, ties her up and threatens to kill her later shows up as her therapist, while she allows her other therapist to continue drugging her with “horse dosage” amounts of sedatives - but oh well, silence for years and years because she felt dead and had nothing to say? For example, Alicia’s aunt is described the first time you meet her as an ugly, old face pressed to a window, and it only gets worse after that because—of course—she’s fat.

And Carell evokes all of Strauss’s fear (he’s an excellent controlled-panicker) and frustration, his irrepressible professional interest working both with and against his desire to escape, and his enduring grief about his various losses. Gabriel was the second man to condemn Alicia to death, which was more than what she could bear—which is why she killed Gabriel. I love the art element which plays a large part both in the plot and in conveying moods and this is cleverly done.He moans about his childhood, and his wife, Kathy, who is cheating on him because she is a beautiful actress so. This was my first book by Shemitt, but I know it will not be my last as I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book. If you are promoting a book as a psychological thriller, there are two things which the author should be careful about. Theo also learns that Christian (Alicia's doctor before Theo) had actually treated her even before Gabriel's death.

That said, if you do like psychological thrillers and are not nit-picky about your books, this is a quick and fun read overall. The way that it plays out in present day is that after many months of therapy, Alicia finally talks. You know, the big twist, the one where every blurb on the cover and every early review gives you a heads up, and perhaps that was part of the issue here for me. Sam confronts his father about his childhood abuse, and almost kills him before stopping himself and leaving. However, from that story, Theo realizes that Alicia does recognize him as the masked intruder who tied them up. But unfortunately, I abhorred this book to such an extent that I curtailed from reading other thrillers for some time. A magical tale about finding yourself and making a found family that will leave the reader enchanted. The blurring of boundaries between a therapist and patient is a no-no for good reasons, as Jane Shemilt's THE PATIENT shows in this twisty tale. There’s a range of characters to be introduced and decent chunk of background information to go over before the action starts to happen.

The world is peopled by busy professionals and their children who grow up to understand their parents were just ordinary humans doing the best they could. Also, I cannot seriously believe that he was so unprofessional and blind about Theo (and his flagrant obsession with Alicia). At the end of The Silent Patient, Theo goes to confront the guy that Kathy has been cheating on him with and we find out that it’s Gabriel.
