The fake dating reminded me of The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas and the friends-to-lovers romance was reminiscent of People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry, so if you’re a fan of either of these novels or tropes, you should definitely check out The Love Wager! On a slight downside, a fair amount of the plot was set at a wedding (Jack and Hallie meet at Olivia’s wedding and Jack and Hallie’s “fake” relationship takes place at Hallie’s sister’s wedding); so, if you’re not a fan of weddings, then The Love Wager might not be for you. Discouraged by the lack of prospects, Jack and Hallie make a wager to see who can find true love first, but when they agree to be fake dates for a weekend wedding, all bets are off.
Set in the 1740s, Wager's story follows the surviving crew of a British ship that crashes on the coast of Brazil following the pursuit of a Spanish vessel.We celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, traditions and living cultures; and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. The story involves tales of survival in a brutal Patagonian winter, chasing Spanish treasure, mutiny, and, no doubt, a lot of men batting around terms like “gunwale,” “leeward,” “fo’c’sle,” and “mizzenmast. This after she literally crawls away from his apartment, changes everything in her life including her apartment, her hair, her job, and her attitude. She gets a new apartment, a new haircut, and a new wardrobe, but when she logs onto the dating app that she has determined will find her new love, she sees none other than Jack, the guy whose room she snuck out of. That initial project was followed by The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Killers of the Flower Moon, which is also based on a non-fiction book by Grann.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scorsese and DiCaprio have already lined up their next collaboration to follow Apple's Killers of the Flower Moon. The line between friends and lovers starts to blur after Hallie enlists Jack to be her “fake” date to her sister’s wedding. He grabbed the plate of nachos and slid it in front of her, because they both knew she loved selecting the first chip. Liz and her mom would cuddle up with snacks and watch Bridgette Jone’s Diary and other fun romance movies while mom would dish out advice for her future like “never, ever go for the bad boys”.
But when she logs into an app to find new love, she matches with none other than Jack: the guy the wrong kind of sparks had flown with just weeks earlier. This is the 30th book, but considering Alex has survived "Kill Alex Cross" before, chances are he survives this one.

The upcoming Apple Studios film is based on Grann's 2017 bestseller that tells the story of a federal law enforcement agency, the precursor to the FBI, as it investigates the murder of the Osage Nation Native Americans living in oil-rich Oklahoma in the 1920s.There's no word yet on who will pen the screenplay for The Wager, but Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas are set to produce for Imperative Entertainment, along with Scorsese for Sikelia Productions, and DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson via their Appian Way Productions, while Richard Plepler of Eden Productions is attached to executive produce the film adaptation. I thought Jack's act halfway through the book left a bad taste in my mouth and killed my like for this book for a while.
