About this deal

On an excursion to a RAF museum and cathedral, the main character Leo discovers something that will change his world.

With his new found determination, Leo suggests Forgotten Heroes as the theme for his class project on WWII.Leo and his best friend Sangeeta are Year Four pupils at their primary school in southern England where they are also some of the only children of color.

It can definitely be utilised in schools to educate students on the diverse soldiers who served in World War Two. All of her books make the reader reflect on how children and adults interact and respect one another from different faults and heritage. Leo now knows that his mission is to find out more about him and why he received the Distinguished Flying Cross; one of the rarest medals an RAF pilot can get. Sophie absolutely loved The Lion Above the Door which handled the sensitive topic of race and racism in history perfectly. Natasha Farrant’s The Girl Who Talked to Trees, in which ‘various species give up their secrets’ to a young girl.

Only thing is, if they’re so special, how come they never see anyone who looks like them in their school history books? For example, whilst in the museum Leo finds a door that takes him back in time where he actually meets the soldier Leo on the battlefield. I'm not talking about his racist classmates, but he just has a very pessimistic view of everyone around him. In her spare time, she delivers emergency aid convoys for refugee families surviving in Calais and Dunkirk, and supports interfaith projects.
