About this deal

Exposure had set in for me but luckily for me at about 9pm a postman, who we now know to be Joseph Lester, was on his way home from work at the mail office. But she was spared jail after the judge decided it would be unfair on her other child, a baby girl she had had with Richard's father, who would be forced into care. A compelling and moving account of how institutional cruelty was covered up by secrecy and wishful thinking. Such a well written book i cant believe the British government treated children like this what right did they have to do that?

It was strange to hear that some children loved this school and are outraged at the publication of this book. The Forgotten was produced by Revolution Studios for Columbia Pictures and was released in the United States and Canada on September 24, 2004. For the first time, I have seen an inside photo of the boat my mother arrived to Australia on, SS Strathaird).

He reveals that the purpose of the experiment is not to investigate the children, but rather the bond that exists between a parent and child, and that he believes it can be broken. That it went horribly wrong should have come as no surprise to it's drafters and schemers, it had all the hallmarks for a disastrous outcome.I picked up the book, expecting to hear some stories about bad experiences, some neglect, that sort of thing. Now in his sixties, he lives in the West Midlands, not far from the Canal towpath where he was found that first freezing night of his life.

He remembers: "One day the house mothers said to me we've got a couple – Arnold and Pearl – who are going to come and see you and see if you like them. Despite his ignominious start, and cruel upbringing Richard’s first five years in a happy children’s home, combined with his determination to stay alive as a baby and later an abused child, has helped him to grow up into a balanced and compassionate adult with loyal friends who are his family. He enjoyed his time at Chateau Impney but eventually moved on and found himself moving around taking different jobs. In 1959 David Hill’s mother – a poor single parent living in England – reluctantly decided to send her sons to Fairbridge Farm School in New South Wales where, she was led to believe, they would have a good education and a better life. These incredibly sad stories are recounted in a stoic manner- not emotional, but instead rather matter of fact. it breaks my heart to read about the child migrants and the way they were treated denied a childhood! I was shocked to find out more of true lineage and was saddened to find out he was the only one abandoned.
