About this deal

As noted above, we'd actually like just a little more resistance in the focus ring, but the zoom ring worked very smoothly, and with just the right amount of resistance: It was stiffer than many zooms in this respect, but the upside is that it showed virtually no tendency toward "zoom creep" when the camera was held with the lens pointing straight up or down. At 135mm f/5, it nets nearly excellent center resolution (4,400 lines), and while there's definitely some off-center softness, it's not as extreme as at 70mm—we see 2,800 lines on average, a decent result. Di III RXD features a high-speed RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) motor unit that allows virtually silent auto-focusing, making it well-suited to video use. the differences were extremely hard to find, with the Tamron only losing marginally at the corners.

The lens isn't too far off in size when compared with the Sony FE 70-300mm, but is notably lighter—Sony's first-party option weighs 1. Sharpness itself is mostly excellent in the centre of the frame but drops off towards the edges and corners. Macro mode has quite good image quality but it might be difficult to hand hold the camera steady about 1 meter away. Tamron has done an overall excellent job with its lenses for the Sony full-frame mirrorless camera system. I've used nearly every digital camera system under the sun, but for my personal work, I love the slow-paced nature of large format film.In addition to outstanding optical quality, you will enjoy the highest level of convenience across the entire lineup. Di III is an affordable, light, and relatively small lens reaching 300mm focal length with an attractive 4.

This product is developed, manufactured and sold based on the specifications of E-mount which was disclosed by Sony Corporation under the license agreement with Sony Corporation. The F-Nikkor 70-300 is a bit brighter (1/3 of a stop at the long end), same with the Z-Nikkor 100-400. Rotating the zoom ring to its maximum focal length gives the lens a total length of about 180mm, inviting a further-forward grip than is adopted at shorter focal-lengths. A sensor that precisely detects the position of the lens enables high-speed and accurate AF, which is ideal when shooting continually moving subjects or recording video. There are other factors that are expressed in different methods, such as taste of softness and degrees of compensation of various aberrations.Eliminating waste to the extreme degree, TAMRON reduced weight while still achieving very high image quality in the 70-300mm F4. In good test conditions (concrete floor, indoors), I am getting a reasonable 70mm keeper rate at shutter speeds as slow as 1/10 and a not-too-bad rate at 1/8. That said though, it almost always went right to the proper focus setting, only rarely "hunting" back and forth. Even though this is partly how Tamron cut the costs of this lens, it makes for an awkward handling experience.

This lens has been available for the Sony E mount since 2020, and Tamron announced Z-mount compatibility in August 2022. It delivers an okay 3,300 lines at the center, with off-center results dropping a bit, but not too much, to bring the average down to 3,000 lines—an acceptable result. However, they kept the build quality at a pretty high level, and the size and weight of the lens are exactly right.IF-ED, it's fast, ultra-quiet and comes complete with full-time manual override in single or 'one-shot' autofocus mode.

Di III RXD isn't fully weather-proof but it does benefit from a moisture-resistant construction which helps to prevent moisture from penetrating the lens, although we'd hesitate to use it in the rain for a prolonged period. It's actually quite close to the Tamron unit's performance in many areas, although the Tamron is a fair bit sharper, even at 300mm than the Canon is at 200mm. To Connect your PC and lens, use the TAMRON Connection Cable (USB Type-A to Type-C/Model CC-150, or USB Type-C to Type-C/Model CC-350) sold separately. The F-Nikkor 70-300 currently sells for 600 EUR / 600 USD / 630 GBP, the Z-Nikkor 100-400 is much more expensive 3000 EUR / 2700 USD / 2600 GBP.The zoom ring has a pretty short throw of 70 degrees and has a 57mm wide rubber surface with a good grip. plus 62g for the lens hood the Tamron 70-300 is almost 100g lighter than the F-Nikkor 70-300 even before accounting for the 133g of the FTZ adapter you’ll need for the F-Nikkor.
