About this deal

Throughout the book Sharpe must uncover a nefarious scheme in which recruits are sold like slaves to other divisions.

It takes place in Spain during 1812, but it is uncertain where it will officially fit into the chronological timeline. Lieutenant Richard Sharpe is newly in command of the demoralized, distrustful men of the 95th Rifles. He makes a number of dangerous enemies, such as French Major Pierre Ducos and Colonel Sir Henry Simmerson, and encounters one from his prior service in India, Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill. For Richard Sharpe, the battle turns out to be one of the bloodiest of the Peninsular War, and he must draw on his last reserves of strength to lead his troops to victory. Sharpe is a British television drama series starring Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe, a fictional British soldier in the Napoleonic Wars, with Irish actor Daragh O'Malley playing his second in command Patrick Harper. When he single-handedly saves the life of General Sir Arthur Wellesley from a group of French cavalrymen, Wellesley gives Sharpe a battlefield commission, appointing him a lieutenant. Sharpe’s mission had seemed simple: Capture a small unguarded French coastal fort, ruin Napoleon’s supply lines, and retreat across the sea. Following the TV adaptation Cornwell has said his subsequent books were almost like a second Sharpe series.

Discrepancies including Sharpe being a Major one minute and a Captain the next, but he's not made a major until later that year.

Characters accents seem to change wildly with Tom Garrod changing from Scottish to Londoner within 2 chapters.

But in writing interval books, there have obviously been subtle references or characters added, that aren’t in the previously published books. But when Napoleon is exiled to Elba and his person’s treasury lost, Sharpe suspects Ducos’s involvement and the hunt begins. I have enjoyed all the sharpe series of books both read and listened to and this one was no different, Agreed there were several inconsistencies in this novel however I cannot say this distracted me from the overall story or performance of the narrator, which I found entertaining, a better job of editing would have improved this performance, however this should not deter avid sharpe readers/listeners from enjoying another adventure of a well loved character. SHARPE’S COMMAND is the brand new novel in the bestselling historical series that has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. The producers wanted a "clever one" and took inspiration from a real soldier who was illiterate but had dictated his own recollections of the war, which were published.Richard Sharpe, the most brilliant – but the most wayward – soldier in the British army, finds himself faced with an impossible task. But the newly promoted major must lead his small force into the biting cold of the winter mountains to rescue the hostages. With Wellington outnumbered, the bankrupt army’s only hope of avoiding collapse is a hidden cache of Portuguese gold. I have listed to and been relistening to the Shape novels and I am rarely dissatisfied with the story or the usually excellent narration of Rupert Farley. This is an awesome body of work and a gigantic amount of entertainment if one was so inclined to dig in.

Lyndon Davies as Rifleman Ben Perkins (1993–1995)– stabbed by O'Rourke in Sharpe's Battle and dies in Harper's arms; survives in the novels.

Initially, Paul McGann was cast in the title role; however, two weeks into filming of the first episode in Ukraine, McGann injured his knee playing football and was forced to withdraw. This book takes place in August 1810 and concerns the destruction of Almeida during the Peninsular War. Wellesley and his various spymasters, first Major Michael Hogan, followed by Major Nairn, Major Mungo Monroe and Major General Ross, find Sharpe to be an extremely capable and cunning officer and give him progressively more important tasks. He also enjoyed Dudley Pope, Alexander Kent, and Patrick O’Brian, and realized the similarities between their work. This book begins with the infamous retreat to Corunna during the Peninsular Campaign, but ends with a fictional battle.
