About this deal

We’ve seen plenty of large monitors offering picture-in-picture (PIP) and picture-by-picture (PBP) modes, but none of them have worked particularly well. Samsung’s screen has reasonable brightness uniformity in its centre, but both of its sides suffered in our test. Samsung’s does, which means as soon as you enable PBP, both your connected devices will change their output resolution to create images at the correct aspect ratio and resolution. With a sophisticated back and incomparable professional look, it is perfectly suited for an open office environment where everyone’s monitor is exposed. While it’s true that those results are on the cool and warm side of the colour temperature scale, everything else is so hampered that we can’t imagine using them.

Samsung S32D850T - SD850 Series - LED monitor - Currys Business

It’s a 2,560×1,440 pixel screen, so it provides substantially more desktop space than a typical 1,920×1,080 Full HD monitor. VA panels make sense for business, as they traditionally have good viewing angles, high brightness levels and deep blacks. The advanced ergonomics of the SD850 allow you to maximize productivity in your professional work space conveniently and comfortably.

Its input lag isn’t great, and only a handful of its screen modes actually improve performance – but that’s OK when this monitor isn’t designed for gaming. The Samsung also can’t handle Adobe RGB as well as the ViewSonic, but that’s the only area where the VS2772 beats its rival. Dynamic Contrast mode made little difference aside from worsening Delta E, and the Cinema mode had a similar effect. The 32in Samsung S32D850Tuses VA panel technology, a great all-round panel type which produces excellent contrast levels, accurate colours and allows for very wide viewing angles, which is why it’s often found in larger monitors.

Samsung S32D850T Review | Trusted Reviews

On the inside, Samsung has chosen VA technology – a choice it concedes has been made partially due to budget costs. It’s sturdy and versatile, and image quality is good – it’s got impressive results in the right areas, only lagging behind in departments where excellence is least required. Editorial independence means being able to give an unbiased verdict about a product or company, with the avoidance of conflicts of interest. It’s a similar amount of versatility to the ViewSonic VP2772, which only just outreaches the Samsung with 150mm of height adjustment.

We were able to further improve the Samsung’s results by calibrating the screen with our colorimeter. This is no gaming system, and VA panels aren’t known for their responsiveness, so it’s no surprise that this screen’s response times weren’t great.

Samsung S32D850T Review - Image Quality, Uniformity, Input

If you can’t or don’t calibrate the S32D850T, you’re unlikely to notice this slight deficiency, so it’s not worth fretting over. That’s great but, obviously, it’s of niche interest – you’ll need your own colorimeter to hit these numbers. Today, we have millions of users a month from around the world, and assess more than 1,000 products a year.Samsung’s S32D850T is a more sensible proposition for anyone after a big-screen experience in the office. It supports resolutions up to HD and you can adjust the PIP resolution and position to fit your needs. These modes are handy because it means you can have the output of two devices onscreen at the same time, with PIP providing an inset image, and PBP placing the inputs side by side. thanks to that VA screen – and, therefore, a contrast ratio of 2566:1 that easily beats the VP2772’s 916:1. The monitor’s bezels are angled inwards, which creates a distinctive and pointy design that makes them appear thinner than they really are.
