Interestingly, James Stewart was apparently briefly slated for this film, presumably in Cummings’s part, and nearly lost his Destry Rides Again role in the process, with Joel McCrea briefly replacing him on that film. She made a big splash in Algiers and The Adventures of Marco Polo (both 1938, that latter also starring Rathbone), but made few films after, the best known being the interesting Three Faces West (1940) with John Wayne. Pop-culture references are toned down and there are a few musical numbers which is rare in CGI animated features. Though I do question why ornithologists did not question why they had an injured cockatoo considering the species is native to Australia and New Guinea (but this is a minor issue).

The Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro is serving as the setting for two films being released this April: one being a full on action film, Fast and Furious 5, the other being a family animated adventure. After three successful festivals (1985, 1991, and 2001), they branched to other locations: Lisboa (Portugal), Madrid (Spain), and Las Vegas (USA).Rio is a pure formula picture and there are many elements have been in other films, such as Blu being taken from the wild as a chick, the animosity between Blu and Jewel and we all know where it is going to lead, the story of Nigel having a tragic past and being rejected, etc, etc…. The animation itself has a similar look to Pixar's particular the human characters, though Túlio looks very similar to the main character in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. However, Darrieux didn’t like the script (with good reason), so eventually Sigrid Gurie took her place.

Much of the humour of the film is kid friendly slapstick as is expected from this type of film and it is done very well. Instead, Irene and Dirk travel to Rio de Janeiro—according to dialogue because it’s so close to the island penal colony. But formula does not have to be bad and when done right it can easily lead to an enjoyable film for all the family. dba Freestar (“Freestar”) for the purposes of placing certain advertising on the site, and Freestar will collect and use certain data for advertising purposes. Rathbone may have been attracted to its very un-Rathboney aspects—at one point for instance, he’s filthy and bare-chested, hacking his way through swampy jungles with a machete—but the script lets him down.
