About this deal

The RG351V is designed to emulate games from dedicated handhelds as well as consoles that connected to TVs, but nearly every game from that latter group was designed for old standard definition TVs with a 4:3 screen ratio.

It also seems like ANBERNIC have started a trend, as other handhelds like the GKD Mini and the Powkiddy RGB20 have hopped on the vertical handheld train. Our current recommendation for retro gaming on-the-go is the Anbernic RG350P featuring a landscape design (like the original Game Boy Advance) and a pair of analog joysticks that are crucial if you intend to play 3D games that include camera control.

The only downfall, which is very minor, might we add, is that if the RG280V is laid down, the speaker is blocked. Classic games from 8-bit and 16-bit consoles and handhelds—Game Boy, GBA, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, etc. Mix and match between emulators and games of your choice to craft a truly customized retro gaming handheld experience.

Details about the extent of our regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority are available from us on request. I was very lucky to receive an Anbernic RG280V, which is one to the most pocketable emulators I have seen.

Finance is only available to permanent UK residents aged >18, subject to status, terms and conditions apply. At a 4:3 ratio, the RG280V lends itself well to many older titles, capable of playing them at a natural-looking resolution with no stretching! Some of these applications end up in the Applications area on the RG280V, or in the Games or Emulators areas. Navigate to the “roms” folder, then go to the folder of the game system that you want to add preview images for. After asking around, u/Ganimoth was kind enough to point me towards this repository whose Open Tyrian (and many more apps) worked flawlessly. The hardware and capabilities of the handheld more than make up for the lack of polish in the operating system, and assuming you’re not singularly obsessed with Super Mario Bros.

It sits below the D-pad, and I find it requires some uncomfortable thumb contortions to use while keeping other fingers on the shoulder buttons. For those new to retro handhelds, the Open Dingux UI is a little… plain, but that’s for good reason. For both the Anbernic RG280V and RG300X devices, we installed the Adam Image custom firmware, considered to be the best for these devices!
