About this deal

The male thread is 1/2 inch BSP (normal size for the connections on a radiator) the tail has a compression nut and olive (included) to suit a valve with a 15mm compression type outlet. Use the appropriate instruments to couple up the new valves ahead of refilling the system with water.

Trade Radiators are proud to offer the best quality, and value, radiators, towel radiators, electric radiators and radiator valves available on the web. To fix a leaking radiator drain valve, you will need to replace the rubber washer seal inside in most cases.

As said above, enough wraps of PTFE wound in the right direction (see Madrab above) will seal yet enable the joint to be dismantled in the future. The liquid PTFE is vital on towel rail rads where the threads in the rad tend only to be a couple of threads deep and there's little to seal onto. While I may be able to fix it if I took it off this is a drain the system job so I want to have a good replacement if necessary. With the system now drained, remove the valve that’s connected to the tail you want to remove (it’ll be manual, thermostatic or Lockshield valve).

Additionally, explore practical features such as smart heating options or dual-fuel towel radiators for bathrooms, so you can dry towels through the summer without having to turn the heating on. When I was doing our rads I used about 12 turns of tape, and tightened the tails up so they were still very slightly "on the tape" rather than grinding metal on metal with a long wrench. I first inserted the new radiator tails in the ends of the radiator dry to gauge how far it they would go when tightened up. These tail extensions provide a simple solution that is cost-effective and avoids any work needing to be carried out on pipes. If you have a radiator valve leaking when turned off, then you could try opening the valve slightly to see if it stops. To view the purposes they believe they have legitimate interest for, or to object to this data processing use the vendor list link below.

After this, undo the union nut by revolving it anti-clockwise with relation to the valve or clockwise with relation to the radiator. It might have to be replaced, but most of the time a leaking radiator valve can easily be repaired with an adjustable spanner. thread of the union nut" - that makes sense, but am I looking to replace the radiator tails as well then?I have yet to refit the radiator and fill with water which will be the ultimate test, however I happened to notice that the nut of the radiator tail bound slightly when it was rotated around the tube of the radiator tail, which was not the case before I make it up ? So, I unscrewed the valve, counting the revolutions from the vertical position and then removed the PTFE tape wrapped around the tail and then wrapped the tail once again in PTFE, wrapping it around eight times. Once you have found exactly where the leak is coming from it should be a case of tightening the nut. If the leaking lockshield valve continues to leak after tightening it, then you can try wrapping some PTFE tape around the threads.
