About this deal
This woodland animal-themed touch-and-feel board book is great for children of all ages and fits perfectly into tiny hands. The text on the left side of the page has different fonts and colors and is just as vivid as the critter it describes. The whole “Never Touch” series of books are a must have for anyone who interacts with babies through Kindergarten. Story is meh (I feel defiant about all these no animal touching statements 🤣) but the silicone textures are great.

We may have been the very first family to borrow this from the library, because all the pages were incredibly clean. Many books claim to be tactile in nature when, in fact, the illustrations differ so slightly from the base page that the descriptor is almost a lie. If your child enjoys Never Touch a Porcupine, check out the rest of the Never Touch … series Never Touch a Polar Bear, Never Touch a Shark, Never Touch a Spider, Never Touch a Dinosaur, Never Touch a Dragon, Never Touch a Monster, and Never Touch a Tiger. And in my opinion, if you’re attempting to teach recognition of various words, this makes it easier to do. Kids will love reading the silly rhymes that warn the dangers of touching the animals--and then ignoring the advice! While illustrations are 5+, the text often has choppy rhythms that are sometimes awkward to read and while there is occasionally a bit of rhyme, the authors do not seem to work very hard at finding synonyms that might actually provide that component. I don’t think it will take too long before toddlers are recognizing certain words and asking you to read this book over and over.

The silicone textures provided for touching and various colors and designs feel perfect for this type of book. He was super cautious about touching the book at first but now loves touching it and giggling and babbling over it. The colorful pages, interesting text, and of course ability to feel the texture on each page make this a book that’s sure to find its way into your favorite books. It was a hit with my daughter when she was into textures (all animal in the book have rubberized textures: feathers, quills, etc. Not so with this terrific series that has a boldly colored animal on the right side of every page with a large section of that creature containing a contrasting color of distinctively bumpy, swirly, and/or striated rubbery-ness.
