Mummy Fairy and Me: Mermaid Magic (Mummy Fairy, 4)

This is a story about Ella who has a mummy fairy, in fact, all of the female members of the family are fairies, including Ella—well, one day, when she is grown up. It’s so rare to see a book that focuses not only on issues that children have to navigate but to also see a parent going through those same issues, I think it does wonders in letting kids know that adults make mistakes too. All she has to do is stamp her feet three times, clap her hands, wiggle her bottom and say, ‘Marshmallow’. Mummy says when she was at school she was so busy doing sums and playing tennis and telling people what to do that she didn’t have time to practise her spells properly.Das Buch ist wirklich total niedlich gestaltet und mit dem rosa und Glitzer ein wahrer Mädchen-Cover-Traum. When I picked up this book, I expected a fun-light story about magic and everything surrounding it, but, on the contrary, this book taught children to give their best at everything they did without cheating, and that was what made me love the story. Sophie wrote her first novel under her real name, Madeleine Wickham, at the tender age of 24, whilst she was working as a financial journalist.

Read this extract from Mummy Fairy and Me: Fairy-in-Waiting, the second book in the series that features more exciting escapades including magic spells, some extremely cheeky monkeys and the best birthday party ever! Download and print these activity sheets to design a fairy crown and handbag, spot the missing words, or even make your very own rainbow! But when curious messages start appearing on the beach, Sasha and Finn are forced to begin talking - about everything. Most of the time it looks just like a normal phone, but as soon as she touches it, the screen starts to glow and it grows into a wand. I really enjoyed that the book was a collection of short magical tales as it broke the book up and would be great for bedtime reading or an end of the day story.I'd say if you're looking for a very light, fluffy, and funny read this would be for you or your daughter, son, younger sister, brother, niece or nephew haha. And while I do think that kids as young as 5 might enjoy the story, I don't know many 5 year olds that read 100+ page books. It’s a project which began at my own children’s bedtimes, as I invented the characters of Ella and her Fairy mother for them. Overall I think this would a good one for young readers, with plenty of little lessons to be learned and fun to be had. Until her not-so-perfect life comes crashing down when her mega-successful boss Demeter gives her the sack.
