When I picked up this book, I expected a fun-light story about magic and everything surrounding it, but, on the contrary, this book taught children to give their best at everything they did without cheating, and that was what made me love the story. Sophie wrote her first novel under her real name, Madeleine Wickham, at the tender age of 24, whilst she was working as a financial journalist.

I really enjoyed that the book was a collection of short magical tales as it broke the book up and would be great for bedtime reading or an end of the day story.I'd say if you're looking for a very light, fluffy, and funny read this would be for you or your daughter, son, younger sister, brother, niece or nephew haha. And while I do think that kids as young as 5 might enjoy the story, I don't know many 5 year olds that read 100+ page books. It’s a project which began at my own children’s bedtimes, as I invented the characters of Ella and her Fairy mother for them. Overall I think this would a good one for young readers, with plenty of little lessons to be learned and fun to be had. Until her not-so-perfect life comes crashing down when her mega-successful boss Demeter gives her the sack.
