We love this book too, such a great rhyming structure to it and as always the illustrations are lovely!

This pattern continues with humour and rhyme as the animal pair meet numerous other animals until the monkey is finally reunited with its mum and dad. A well-meaning and friendly Butterfly appears and comforts him, then they set out to find the little monkey’s mum, together. The little monkey never gives Butterfly the key information - the little monkey’s mum looks like he does! My daughter is 11 months old and we have been reading this book multiple, multiple times a day for weeks. I hope that the treasure trove of books and activities allows you to take away a new gem, or a nugget that inspires you.The use of descriptive language can be used in class as a learning tool when covering a wide range of vocabulary tasks, from its use of quatrains and other rhyming to the vast array of descriptions which can be used when teaching about adjectives, nouns and verbs. Brown fur' is Little Monkey's next clue but the creature hanging upside down in a tree isn't his mum; 'she's not nearly so small' explains little monkey.

You could also read the story before a trip or a holiday to discuss with a young child what they should do if they ever do become lost (not a comfortable idea to entertain but it is certainly an important subject to discuss if you feel your little one is old enough).
