This book reminds me so much of Leo Lionni's classic book from 1959, "Little Blue and Little Yellow. Or, as my daughter said after reading, “It doesn’t matter what you look like, it’s what’s on the inside.

I have used Makaton symbols to help the children to retain the text and also used Makaton sign language to help the children learn the text orally. Snapfish is a massive player in the world of photo books and that makes it a great option for yearbooks. The bravery of two dots to defy their community's segregation by color (red, blue, and yellow), results not only in the creation of a new color, but transforms their town into something amazing. Of course all that means this is one of the more expensive services out there, but you do get what you pay for here.

But the book misses all that, and ends up making it seem like racism is just natural, inevitable, and has equal consequences for all groups, none of which is true. Photo quality is decent but may be a bit saturated for some, so just be sure not to add even more color to pictures before sending them over, if you don't want faces to come out orange. The text is lovely, honest yet hopeful; the length is great, and JJ loved identifying the colors and watching their world grow and change. When inspected up close (as in, within 25cm of the page), the images are slightly fuzzy – especially the darker photos. You can also move either the frame of the photo or enlarge and adjust the photo itself, which means you can get the perfect framing for each image.

Recommended to anyone looking for picture-books that they can use to explore these issues with the children in their lives.
