We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself. They come out with it straight: they are clueless, everyone else is clueless, we’re all winging it, and we’re not always very good at winging it.

Brian Limond (born 20 October 1974), kent as Limmy forby, is a Scots comic, actor, scriever, musicker, podcaster an streamer. It’s been getting a bit icy here in winter and there was a bit of ice in the playground at my son’s primary school. Or maybe, because everybody has got dirt on everybody else, it’s a fucking mutually assured destruction thing – a nuclear deterrent. It reads like a chronological collection of anecdotes surrounding the theme of being a bit of a weirdo, and sometimes that’s just what we need: a reminder that other people are as wonky as we are. He uises mony onwab social media plats, sic as Twitter, YouTube, Twitch, an Vine afore it shut doon.

A (very) outspoken supporter of Scottish Independence, you can count on Limmy to have a cutting comment or observation to make on Twitter as major events unfold in the political sphere. During his time there, he was asked to contribute to the book New Masters of Flash: The 2002 Annual, a resource for Macromedia Flash developers.

Limmy is a funny bloke and this traipse through his ups and downs, his openness about his mental health and his humour flows with ease. on their "Het 100" list in 2006, that celebratit the fowk wha makit the biggest dint in Scots cultur ower the year. The BBC commissioned a second series of Limmy's Show, which premiered on BBC Scotland in February 2011. But he told the story in an upbeat, positive way, which made it a pleasure rather than a trial to read.

But there are certain things, certain pastimes, that boys seem to take part in that don’t seem to be fucking taught.

In 2017, the BBC commissioned what was then a one-off special of Limmy's Homemade Show, which was broadcast in April 2018. Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse. He does it without fail for anybody famous enough, and he has a large enough following that it occasionally gets picked up by news outlets and broadcast morosely in serious contexts. Another carryover star from ‘Limmy’s World of Glasgow’ who made the switch to his BBC sketch show with hilarious results.

Book review: Surprisingly down to earth, and very funny by Limmy

On 1 May 2017, he released his second book of short stories, That's Your Lot, embarking on a similar UK book reading tour to his first. Between reading chapters of this book, I watched him compose a dance track in real time on the streaming platform Twitch, and most nights he can be seen live-streaming games or improvising short stories of the kind found in his previous two books, Daft Wee Stories and That’s Your Lot. Auto theft, fanny fright, incompetent but dogged self-harm, raving and tripping as self-medication, dole stupor, bail skipping, the death drive, pretend machismo, pretend homosexuality, alcoholism, Flash animation, BBC showrunner. They’re not saying that I helped them because I gave them advice on how to sort their life out, but just hearing somebody else talking about it. He’s fairly famous in Scotland, less so in the rest of the UK, and I imagine he falls somewhere between unknown and maximally niche to the rest of the world.

Candour alone doesn’t account for the amount of space he devotes to his first wank or the extent to which his sexual development was blighted by “fanny fright”. So I said, ‘How about I just talk about everything and then the mental health stuff will be in there naturally.
