About this deal

At this point, I just couldn’t put the book down and I had to finish and find out how in the world it was going to end.

Peter James From the bestselling author of What You Did comes the story of a young couple who are about to discover that in a house full of secrets there’s nowhere to hide… For Helen and George, the remote fixer-upper in Cornwall was supposed to be a dream home, and a way to leave behind the problems they’re both running from.Ain't no way this woman just waltzes back in and starts bossing hoes around and we all just accept it? The theme of the family appears in Paula’s narrative as well as in the cases that she works with her team to solve. This is the 30th book, but considering Alex has survived "Kill Alex Cross" before, chances are he survives this one. Paula lives with her father, who is a former policeman, while at the same time she is still chasing the ghost of her mother that has constantly been haunting her. This is a hard book for me to rate, as overall I did enjoy it, but there were so many things I didn't like!

Paula is sent to her hometown of Northern Ireland so that she can work on a case, which involved several missing girls. We always think we want to know secrets, but what we forget is that they come with their own weights, heavy as millstones, and if you aren’t careful this weight can crush you. The United Kingdom's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. I don’t want to give it away, and we do see from the perspective of multiple people, but this one turns the story upside down! George is the ultimate Great Value narcissist (lacking the charm, cunning, and intelligence of a brand name narcissist) who decides his floundering "career" is more important than Helen's pay check and general wellbeing. Her short story ‘Archaeology’ was broadcast on Radio 4 in 2015 and her story ‘Rosie Grant’s Finger’ appeared in the anthology Belfast Noir, as well as ‘The Last Resort’ in the CWA anthology Deadly Pleasures. The book description had me intrigued from the start; A house full of secrets, sinister dolls, and a triple murder, sign me up.

Claire has been described as ‘a knock-out new talent’ (Lee Child) and ‘Ireland’s answer to Ruth Rendell’ (Ken Bruen). However, despite the number of mistakes that Paula has done, she still has work to do, considering the fact that a baby has been snatched from the hospital and everyone is racing against time to locate the missing baby. Then, as the builders begin tearing down walls and cabinets, they find things - sinister dolls, dead animals, jars filled with liquid and other things buried in the yard. A husband and wife lie to each other not only about who they are, but the twisted way their families are intertwined. I did that with this book, and I saw that the questions I had didn't have simple answers, so I would have to finish the book to get a complete answer to those questions.

I’m certain, with all her bajillion books, this author has heard that it’s preferable to show than to tell.

So, I saw Let Me In, literally break bookstagram this week and of course I didn’t want to feel left out so I requested it on Netgalley . After being awarded a bachelor’s degree from Oxford University, Claire McGowan relocated to London where she worked within the charity sector. The spooky house, witchy vibes and literally every single character in this book is hiding something. THE FALL is her first novel, which is followed by a series starring forensic psychologist Paula Maguire. George is a lazy, shiftless, lying, out of shape, disgraced, and possibly misogynistic, music journalist who, according to Helen, is really sweet and lovable.Until the reader is in too deep in the story, is when the author decides to reveal the backstory to the protagonist. Claire McGowan is a well-established author who penned her first book in her native, Rostrevor when she was only nine years old. At one point, there's a gigantic hole in their kitchen wall, but George can't be fked to do anything about it.
