About this deal

Despite all the perfection of the musicianship, interplay, production and mixing, it’s really the strong material that carries through with a diverse roster of addictive tunes that scream out more fun than a barrel of monkeys. album the year before but where her version suggests a relatively amicable if still sad parting of the ways, Beck's wordless take hints at a stormier and more emotional break-up especially his extended solo at the end of the piece where he even drops in a near-identical descending line to one that he first placed on "Lookin'.

Arriving at a studio to meet with Martin, he arrived to find the producer sifting through outtakes and sounds from the “Day in the Life” sessions. While BECK’s guitar antics are the star, this is truly a band effort with each instrument proving to be an essential ingredient for the compositional fortitude. Thelonius" even finds Beck using a talk box to sing lyrics written by Stevie Wonder, with the soul legend himself joining in on clavinet to add his inimitable swing to this jazz-funk classic. A 2008 live performance of the track from Ronnie Scott’s gives a particularly good insight into just how involved both the left and right hand techniques are on this song. If you were to stick Jeff Beck’s entire back catalogue on shuffle, you’d be confronted with some serious generic shifts – perhaps to a slightly confusing extent, especially if you were not around to follow the developments of his career in real time. Also prominent is the perfect use of percussion which drifts to and fro between the jazz and rock paradigms. The live album that he did with the Jan Hammer Group is kind of boring, even though it does have "Freeway Jam" on it.

While the inclusion of cover tunes was primarily a hindrance on previous efforts, on BLOW BY BLOW the inclusion of an instrumental version of The Beatles’ “She’s A Woman” proved that BECK could indeed master the art of reinterpreting another artist’s material with great success. The reason I say “attempt” is because exact details about what Beck used on that album are hard to come by.Les Paul: "I Invented Multitracking, So I Know You Can Record Parts Separately, but I Don’t Do That. I've always considered fusion to be more about technique than tunes so it's not a type of music I've really given any time to before, outside of *Heavy Weather" by Weather Report and that does have tunes.

If you are any fan of Jazz, Rock, or just great guitar playing this is for you, heck if you enjoy listening to any kind of music this is for you. I was attracted though to this hit album from 1975 firstly by the recent Johnny Depp-related publicity surrounding Beck's current U.

Eschewing the bluesy rock sounds of his past, BECK took the jazz-rock aspects that had been gestating and entered the full blown jazz-fusion scene.
