About this deal

I loved how this book showed that not all love was terrible (like the divorce or her first one) but to also know your worth. Audrey essentially waltzes in, takes Rosie’s role in a zombie movie and constantly flirts with her on-again-off-again ex-boyfriend. I don’t think your honour has any correlation with how many times you’ve been penetrated or how many different things you’ve been penetrated with or any of this nonsense. We follow the pair’s unconventional journey as Holly Bourne reminds us all that love in real life is nothing like it is in the movies.

What I liked so much is how it challenges the representation of romance throughout films (I'm also going to include books as well) and how it's not always perfect and happy. Looking through a pile of donated books, I was immediately drawn to the bright yellow cover of Holly Bourne’s It Only Happens In The Movies. She then spent six years working as an editor, a relationship advisor, and general 'agony aunt' for a youth charity – helping young people with their relationships and mental health. The female character: “They’re always crazy perfect skinny, even though they’re supposedly always munching down burgers and chocolate.Prior to reading It Only Happens In The Movies, I’d never heard of Holly Bourne nor had I been a fan of YA fiction. Fast, easy, enjoyable reading that I highly recommended for the genre lovers and author’s die hard fans! I think the only thing I wasn’t crazy about in It Only Happens in the Movies (apart from Rosie, who I would like to drop kick off a cliff) was the ending. Anyway, overall I thought it was a great reflection on all things relationship, first love, betrayal and the strength of friendship.

Holly Bourne is definitely back and I’m a little pissed because she ruined my favorite romantic movies for me. But this hard-held conviction is put to the test when Audrey agrees to play a “feminist freedom fighter zombie bride” in Harry’s new movie, and finds that she might just be falling for him. However, I didn’t love this as much as I’d anticipated and to be honest, I can’t quite put my finger on why just yet.

In her final year of studies before going to Uni, she lives alone with her Mum who is mentally struggling to cope with all of the stress. Vaginismus affects around 17% percent of women between fifteen and sixty-four in the UK, but almost 50% of women with vaginismus are between fifteen and twenty-four, highlighting exactly why this representation is necessary in YA. but it’s important to be able to distinguish problematic, unrealistic and in some cases downright abusive relationships from the healthy. It challenges the many clichés that you find in romance films, from the bad boy turned good, to dramatic kisses and The Big Obstacle at the end that tests their relationship.
