About this deal

Suddenly, the thrilling adventure of working as a flight attendant on a history-making long-haul flight becomes a desperate race to unmask a villain and find a way out of a horrific ultimatum before innocent lives are lost. As a policewoman, her work revolved around writing daily reports which ranged from courtroom work to performance appraisals to witnesses’ recounts.

Her daughter has special needs, taking her entire time as her husband keeps big secrets from her: a liar, a cheat. Her request was granted and she used her leave, which was two years, to conduct a pilot project which involved freelance writing gigs. Her novels are published in more than 35 languages and have sold more than two million copies worldwide.Playful and irreverent, spine-tingling and spooky, The September House puts a fresh spin on the classic haunted house story, delivering an immersive tale about the secrets lurking within one building’s walls, and within the lives of its inhabitants. Those on board include celebrities, journalists, ordinary members of the public… and a group of undercover eco-warriors who are about to make the party atmosphere fall flat in spectacular fashion. Furthermore, she founded Chipping Norton Literary Festival in September 2011 where she is also a trustee. I don’t want to share too much more about the details because to experience that firsthand is crucial to the enjoyment of this story. An inaugural, 20 hour non stop flight from London to Sydney, Australia, sees flight attendant Mina, desperately trying to concentrate on her duties, but she knows she’s not pulling her weight, as her mind consistently drifts back to her police officer husband, Adam, and daughter Sophia.

Summary of plot line: Boarding time for 20 hours nonstop direct flight from London to Sydney is just started! As an aside, my library print copy had more typos and editing issues than I've ever noticed in any other book.

This subterfuge, of a sort, is intended to give her a break from her husband, Adam, whom she believes has cheated on her, and her five-year-old, special needs daughter, Sophia. It added a dimension to the story that we got to know some of the individual passengers through their thoughts about their lives and why they took this inaugural flight to Sydney. I wrote other books instead – became known for twisty thrillers – then last year I sat at my desk with new resolve.

Every time I thought I knew who might be involved and what was around the next corner, a new revelation would blow that to bits. I did however really enjoy the look into the behind the scenes aspect of air travel and what a cabin crew goes through on flights. The story is told mainly from the perspectives of Mina and her husband Adam (who is on the ground watching their daughter Sophia), but we also get short snippets of the backstory of various passengers and their reasons for being on the flight. Mackintosh's fourth novel, After the End, was published in hardback in June 2019 and became an instant Sunday Times bestseller. Mina is a flight attendant who deliberately places herself aboard an inaugural non-stop flight from London to Sydney, Australia. She joined the force as a police constable in January 2004, a position she held for the next four years before, in January 2008, being promoted to a police sergeant. Then she proceeded to the Engham-based Royal Holloway, a constituent of the University of London, where she schooled between 1995 and 1999. There isn’t much that can be said about the hostage situation without taking away from the reader’s enjoyment. This prompts her to start posing serious questions about the demise of her parents, bringing up memories from her tragic past.

We talked through the night, falling asleep on the sofa and waking to find our cheeks wet with tears, clinging to each other as though we were drowning.

With the clock ticking down, Mina finds herself in an impossible situation that she has only 20 hours to solve. Determined to run away from her past, she leaves everything behind and relocates to an isolated cottage on the coast of Wales, in an effort to forget about the terrible events of that tragic night in November.
