About this deal

This book definitely belongs somewhere in the Middle Grade hall of fame for characters, plot, pacing, stakes and the wild ride it takes the reader on. I read this very quickly after being approved for it on Netgalley, primarily because I have really enjoyed the author’s previous thrillers and I hoped this would be another propulsive read. In this story we follow fourteen contestants competing in a Hide-and-Seek contest at an abandoned amusement park. Justin is reeling from his mother's death throughout and must confront his fears about relieving those moments. year-old Joanna forfeits her career to become a SAHM (girl, 11; boy, 9; girl, 3) when she and her husband, 49, move into a house in a closed community where he grew up outside of Dublin.

The story revolves around the disappearance of 3 year old Lily Murphy and the connection it has to Joanna Stedman who now lives in her house. This book creeped me out more than some adult horrors I’ve read AND covered social issues at the same time. Many thanks to Netgalley and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

Joanna and her husband Mark move to a bigger house with there three children Joanna and her youngest daughter are playing hide and seek in the garden but Joanna panic s as she can't find Sophie but then her new neighbour Fran says she hiding in her garden and Fran tells her that the occupants that used to live there lost there daughter Lily playing hide and seek and was never found. But there were so many red herrings, twists and turns that it was impossible to work out what had happened to Lily so I gave up and just immersed myself in this wonderfully involving book! I was invested from page one and am clearly stunned enough to still be thinking about it hours after finishing.Overall: with less characters, this would be so much fun but it was still great try and I enjoyed it till the end. Unbeknownst to them this is the same house that three year old Lily Murphy disappeared from thirty years ago. Joanna becomes all-consumed by finding out what happened to the little girl because of a secret she is hiding.

as much as i can remember that was my first middle grade paranormal thriller and i really liked the story and how creepy, chilling and scary it was! But this holiday things are different - the childhood games that once filled their days have lost their appeal to everyone except Millie. Joanna thinks she may be remembering what happened to Lily, and her childhood self may have been involved. The not knowing was sort of like when you first started watching Lost and you knew something was in the jungle, but you could never tell what it is. But they’ll need to use their eagle eyes when all the fun characters from the book come together in a big crowd at the end. With the Americans approaching, Amelie takes on one last mission, to save a group of Jewish children barely younger than her, and once that’s done she will at last find out if her family are coming home.

As one is counting, the others hide in, outside, inside, beside, on, under, in front of, behind, over, between, among, through, across, and around things/places in the park. I guess I’m not as much of a grown-up as I fear, particularly when it comes to a title like Hide and Seeker. Andrea Mara is one of those authors who as soon as I hear she has a new book out I just have to drop everything and get stuck in.Thanks to Kids Can Press and NetGalley for the provided e-ARC and the opportunity to read this book. Overall, I recommend this to parents who are teaching their children for the first time, plus this was such a fun book. Little one, so calm and so happy, the darkness of the night is yours like the darkness of your skin. Even though everyone is desperate to win - to seize their dream futures or escape their haunting pasts - Mack feels sure that she can beat her competitors. innocent childhood game given a horror movie coating, sinisterizing the phrase "come out, come out, wherever you are.
