About this deal

While this setup works well enough, experience has taught me that the various sections of the pole can become stiff and difficult to pull apart over time. So that he can continue to deliver as a vacuum, Henry has had a number of iterations over the years as Numatic have made tweaks to ensure he remains very good at what he does best. To access the dust bag you remove the two clips either side of Henry’s motor unit, lift the motor unit off, and under the filter you’ll find the large dust bag. Both the Henry HVR 160 and HVR 200 models have seen a large reduction in motor power when compared to previous versions of Henry.

It’s a plastic base plate with litter pickers either side of the suction inlet which help deal with more clinging litter such as pet hairs. Today, we have millions of users a month from around the world, and assess more than 1,000 products a year.

With Dyson you’ll be getting a more modern and slick design, but with Henry you know you’re getting a very reliable hoover. should allow you to clean the whole downstairs or upstairs of an average-sized home, and it also means you can leave Henry at the bottom of a flight of stairs when cleaning a staircase. A keen eye for technical detail and a general curiosity for how things work often gives Oli a unique insight into products he's either testing or writing about. Henry couldn’t be easier to operate; this version of the machine has one motor speed, an on/off flick switch and a light which illuminates when the machine has power. Numatic boasts of having produced over 10 million vacuums over the years and insists that most of them are still in service.

I measured the Henry at 408AW, which makes it one of the most powerful vacuum cleaners I’ve tested; even more powerful than the Stihl SE 33 wet and dry cleaner. This review has been compiled after hours of real-world testing and many more with Henry’s predecessor and sibling vacuum cleaners. The latest Henry models do not come with the same setting so it’s no longer a case of Henry Hoover 1200w vs 620w,, there is just the one vacuum mode which operates at 620 watts with the 160-11 model and 580 watts with the 200-11 model. With over 10 million Henrys made, and most still in use today, he really is the vacuum you can trust. A single sweep forwards and backwards was all it took to leave an entirely clean path through the mess. With a range of different tools for the job, Henry can be used to clean the dirt near the pedals, as well as picking up pet hair if your animals sometimes travel with you. In addition to bag capacity, there is a difference in suction power as detailed above, though it’s only a small difference of 40 watts so it’s unlikely something that you’ll notice. There is also something really satisfying about the metallic sound that Henry makes when debris travels down its stainless tube set.

Dialling down the suction can sometimes be necessary and providing you’re using the stainless tubes it’s something that is easy to do thanks to a bypass valve that drops up to 30% of suction power. The high option operated at 1200 watts and the low option at 620 watts, meaning you could almost double the suction power when needed. Henry bags even come with a neat closing tab that can be closed the moment they’re removed, minimising the chance of any dusty spills during bag changes. The combination floor tool is what most Henry users will use most of the time and it’s a fine if slightly crude piece of kit.The curved section has an air vent on it, too, which is used to decrease suction power – the vacuum cleaner has just an on/off switch.
