About this deal

Industry professionals also appreciate the wide frequency response, and casual users often highly the punchy and satisfying sound profile. Originally distributed to airline passengers to combat the loud engine noise on Concorde flights back in the 1980s, Sennheiser’s HD 25 headphones are already very highly regarded in the professional audio arena, long having been a favourite of studio owners and DJs in particular (in fact they feature in our guide to the best DJ headphones ). The closed-back HD 25 are purpose-designed, professional monitoring headphones offering high attenuation of background noise. The kick drum loop's attack isn't quite as sculpted in the high-mids and highs as it can be on other pairs, and the sub-bass synth hits that punctuate the beat are still an important part of the mix, but they don't overtake it as can happen with very bass-heavy headphones.

Even though I'm a freelancer now, PCMag has been my home for well over a decade, and audio gear reviews are still my primary focus.

On-ear headphones need to be well-designed so that they still offer a good amount of passive noise cancellation. This results in a clear, tight bass that packs a surprising amount of punch considering the size of the ear cups, together with a smooth top end absent of any harshness, but not lacking in detail thanks to another slight lift around the 10kHz mark. Check out some other alternatives that offer a few different features compared to the Sennheiser HD25.

If you're looking for a DJ headphone pair that has a little more in the way of accessories or extra design features, the Beats Pro by Dr. If you’re not ready to remove the headphone can entirely, it’s easy enough to flip the headphone can out of the way on one side so you can check in with a co-worker or another DJ in your booth. His baritone vocals get enough crispness to stand out in front of the mix, while the drumming gets an ideal amount of rich bass—but not so much that the drums compete with the vocals, as they often do on overly bass-heavy pairs. These high-performance headphones might have been around for some time, but they’re still as iconic as when they first emerged on the market. While they look fine, and they’ve got the added bonus of the Sennheiser brand, they don’t look like much.

The next thing to do is to try the headphones on a different audio source to check that it is not the original audio source (or a setting on the audio source) that is creating the issue. Although longevity and extremely robust construction are important, you also need to get the style right. But for DJing, I prefer the shorter cable as it limits the amount of times that the cable gets in my way. With a frequency range of 16 to 22,000 Hz and high sensitivity due to the lightweight aluminium voice coils, the latest generation of HD25 delivers accurate sound reproduction. When these synth hits venture into slightly higher notes (that are still quite low), they seem to get a bit more of the spotlight—so the lows seem to have more presence than the sub-bass lows. Unlike other DJ headphones, these are not overly warm, and the focus is on clarity, punch, and precision. The sound is mind-blowing*, no coloration and I didn't notice any holes in frequency spectrum either. Ideal monitoring headphones for cameramen and DJs, these are a pair of true sound professional working headphones.
