About this deal

Hamish and the WorldStoppers (Paperback) - Waterstones

A BBC series, also co-written and co-produced by Wallace, followed, as did a book, written by both men. I really enjoyed reading Hamish and the Worldstoppers because of all the funny characters and the interesting and intriguing plot. Hamish finds out other people can also beat the pauses and they defend humanity as the Pause Defence Force. I think that this is a children's book written with adults in mind (kind of like how Pixar movies have frequent jokes that are intended for the parents of the watching children). The world is paused by the evil Worldstoppers and their dreadful friends The Terribles, who sabotage it and plan to take it over for themselves. I’d snap my head round and try and see if everyone had stopped doing whatever it was they’d been doing; if all this really was for me.

He later learns that he’s not alone – some other kids are able to do it as well, but so are some monsters that seem to want to replace everyone with meaner versions of themselves. Hamish can walk in the pauses and he thinks that he is the only person who can until he finds out about the Pause Defence Force (PDF).A fast-moving, hugely funny, uproarious and irreverent storyline will engage junior readers, especially boys. Traditionally, hundreds of members travel to London for the meet-up and undertake good deeds for strangers, with Wallace present. And don't forget, they must fill in the fact file for their character, like the one on the right for Hamish! The second we finished the first, my son went and grabbed the second book and even my "Do you want a reading cleanse in between by reading some smaller books" failed - he wanted to start the second book ASAP.

He began writing reviews for video game magazines at the age of 13 for school work experience: a reviewer had become ill and so Wallace was given the opportunity to review a game. There are a few body-related humour moments but no extreme out-there potty-humour like The Day My Bum Went Psycho and friends (which is why I'm reading this, looking for alternatives for my son who really dislikes that kind of humour that seems to be how many books in his age range are written). Our resources are crucial for knowledge lovers everywhere—so if you find all these bits and bytes useful, please pitch in. Hamish makes a good protagonist, there's a wide variety of supporting cast (including some interesting female characters) and the lead-in to the sequel doesn't leave much in the way of hanging plot-lines that are going to make you angry about a lack of conclusion. I’m 41 years old and have recently started taking my two little ones (4 and 7) to the local library as it is important for them to experience them before they disappear.

I’ve written plenty of books for grown-ups, but I had more fun writing Hamish than almost anything else. The title sums up this story - the world keeps stopping/pausing and it is up to Hamish and the PDF (Pause Defense Force) to save the day. A hilarious adventure from presenter and bestselling author Danny Wallace brought to life with illustrations from Jamie Littler, perfect for fans of David Walliams, Roald Dahl, David Baddiel and David Solomons!
