About this deal

News of the collaboration has received a mixed response on social media, leaving some baffled and others excited. After dropping a collab in February, Greggs and Primark are back with a wider selection of Greggs-branded clothing. Take your pick from logo tees, sweatshirts and hoodies and wear your love of the tasty treat purveyors with pride. The same has not always been said of Primark, which does not pay the “real living wage” in the UK and has been criticised for alleged maltreatment of garment workers abroad.

It works because British culture has a soft spot for Greggs,” says Matt Poile, deputy foresight editor at a strategic consultancy, The Future Laboratory. But it turned out to be a stroke of marketing genius that got people talking and paved the way for Greggs to announce its clothing range with high street giant Primark. The 130-seater café, which opened this weekend, offers a menu of the bakery’s most popular items, such as its sausage rolls, bakes, pizza and sweet treats. The name of a high street sausage roll vendor may not seem an obvious choice for consumers looking for what is fresh in fashion, but Greggs is again proving its sartorial chops with a second collaboration with Primark. Of course, these clothing lines may only be a bit of fun for brands, but they serve a function too by tapping into shared emotional space that they, fundamentally, have a right to occupy.

Team with our white logo tee or and denim shorts for a look that all the OG lattice lovers will add to their Pinterest boards. Primark and Greggs have released the first look at their upcoming limited edition fashion collaboration. I’m not exaggerating when I say Greggs has the nation on a chokehold (the vegan sausage roll actually has healing powers and once cured me from a bout of food poisoning,), so I was excited to see the bakery’s latest offering. It’s seen as an unpretentious and affordable brand,” says Poile, “and people want to align themselves with that everyday quality.

Greggs x Primark reunite for a Christmas collection

Punterscouldn't help but stop and stare at our garb, with some even excitedly whipping out their cameras. Picture this… an official Greggs Christmas Jumper, Bobble Hat, stationery and all of the Greggs loungewear you could ever want. I’d wear it indoors as opposed to wearing it outside, but I can imagine my friends wearing it for a laugh, I can see us co-ordinating and doing it for a laugh. It certainly has for Catlin Jones from Wales who was so delighted to be reunited with her daily pastry after the UK-wide lockdown, that she decided to mark the occasion with a tattoo of the brand’s logo, as reported in The Sun newspaper. A seemingly unlikely collaboration, but one that made perfect sense to the city's Greggs fans who excitedly bought up the entire range within hours of it going on sale in Newcastle on Saturday, February 19.In 2019 provocateur presenter Piers Morgan tore into the company for the launch of its vegan sausage roll, which he described as ‘woke’. In a limited run earlier this year, it proved so popular that there were queues around the block and in just three days shelves were bare. Alex Econs, merchandising expert and founder of printing company, ICON Printing, said: "With a large number of merch released over the past year and from the news coverage and social media storm we’ve seen it generate, it’s undeniably a great marketing tactic for brands. When news of a Primark and Greggs link-up landed in our inboxes, I thought “how totally random”, but not one to shy away from ironic brand merch (the KFC bucket hat is sartorial gold), I decided to head on down to the launch. Iconic brands that consumers know and love can tap into their cult-like following and give something back that their fans will find comical but also treasure.

This subtle dig at the growing ‘uncoolness’ of millennial hype culture – scorned by Gen Z, who prefer unfiltered to curated feeds – is also cognizant of the fact the hierarchy of what’s in and what’s not is shifting.

Streetwear lines from unexpected brands work best when they poke fun at a fashion industry, which can often take itself too seriously. If a brand is to make the most of a clothing collab, it has to be more than a gimmick; elevating the synergies which already exist between itself and its consumer base. Complete with Greggs branded tracksuits, bucket hats, sliders and trainers (to name but a few), there’s no doubt you’ll be looking like a snack.
